We don't seem to have had a music thread for some time, so how about memories of our best concerts?
Last night, front row for Sigur Ros in Bournemouth - simply magnificent. They produce the most beautiful music to ever be considered rock, and even without last tour's strings and horn section their sound is as ethereal and haunting as ever. Highlights probably the opener, Svefn-g-englar, or Saeglopur but it's hard to decide. For thsoe that don't know, they are a four piece from Iceland, and here's some youtube links - play as loud as you can Hoppipolla (pronounced Hoppypochla) - This one everyone should know by now: Svefn-g-englar: Saeglopur Edited by cavediver, : No reason given.

The first and third videos are not available any more.
My favorite concerts within the past year and half include Rush at Red Rocks, Niel Young at the Wells Fargo Convention Center in Denver, and the Aspen/Snowmass Jazz Festival (with a conspicuous absence of jazz music).

The first and third videos are not available any more. Strange - they are fine from here. But just do a search on the song titles and you'll quickly find a working version at youtube.
Rush at Red Rocks Yep, last year's highlights certainly included Rush at Newcastle, Rush at Sheffield, and Rush at Wembley, twice And getting to meet them for the first time Edited by cavediver, : No reason given.

I saw The Verve at Glastonbury this year: I did'nt think I liked them but I stopped to watch as I walked back to the camp and I wound up staying to the end.
This of course made the walk a damn nightmare.

Roger Waters "Dark Side of the Moon Tour", May 18th, 07.
at: South Florida Sound Advice Amphitheatre. I don't have the full setlist, but the first set was a great mix of all Floyd, including Sheep, Another Brick in the Wall, and Interstellar Encore!! The second set was the ENTIRE Dark Side of the Moon - from start to finish, plus a whole lot of other cool Floyd classics after that. All in all one of my top 5 shows of all time. Roger Waters "Dark Side of the Moon Tour", May 18th, 07. Yep, saw it ~10 days earlier, 4th row at Earls Court. Excellent gig! And saw it again this year in May, at the O2, and again 4th row The only downside being that both times I was directly under the 'prism' and so couldn't quite get the whole effect. Sheep a definite highlight, though apparently he played Pigs - Three Different Ones on some nights Would have loved to have seen that. Other favourite bits - the whole Vera thru' to Comfortably Numb piece, Fletcher Memorial Home, and The Bravery of Being Out of Range. Thanks, onifre - you've brought back some great memories

Personally, I think "The Final Cut" is one of PF's best written album in total. Some people disagree with me (perhaps because it's also one of the most depressing PF albums?). The first time I heard "When the Tigers Broke Free" I just about cried. It's not just the emotionality, it's the musicality (I remember music more than lyrics, and good music is more likely than good lyrics to send a chill down my back).
I have yet to see any PF or related shows. Speaking of O2--you weren't by any chance lucky enough to get tickets to the show of the decade, were you?

Thanks, onifre - you've brought back some great memories We share them with equal appreciation. Kuresu beat me to the question. Led Zeppelin at the O2, Dec. 07, did you manage to snag those tickets? I would've given alot for those tickets. Btw, theres rumors about a tour but Plant said he doesn't want to. There was talks of Chris Cornell, but I don't know... Speaking of O2--you weren't by any chance lucky enough to get tickets to the show of the decade, were you? No, and I was rather gutted not to be there. That's one of a handful of gigs that I really screwed up over. Another was Live8 with Roger, Dave, Nick and Rick together for the first, and last time... But to see & hear Kashmir for real... bugger! And I agree, Final Cut is a true great - though it is more RW than PF. I still think Amused to Death is possibly his greatest moment outside Floyd proper.

There was talks of Chris Cornell, but I don't know... Hmmm, I hadn't heard about Cornell. He and the RATM boys did a great job together, but this is slightly different league

It's not just the emotionality, it's the musicality (I remember music more than lyrics, and good music is more likely than good lyrics to send a chill down my back). My first Floyd concert, March 30th 94. Joe Robbie Stadium(were the Dolphins play). I was 18, outside arena, first time I ever tried LSD, it starts raining as the intro to "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" starts playing. You wanna talk about tears?! I still get chills as I type it. Moments like that are once in a life time.

Hi Cavediver,
Sigur Ros are fantastic, I absolutely love them. Nice to know that they can pull it off live. My favourite live gig would have to be Gil Scott-Heron at Glasto in 2000. I had already been lucky enough to catch him doing a warm-up set before the festival had properly opened, but his main set was a revelation. He was on cracking form and, as he played, a magnificent sunset provided a back drop to the stage. Very atmospheric. Work for Peace stands out in my memory. Mutate and Survive. But I couldn't think of a better place to put this.

Great Gig. I saw them in St. Louis in 2006.
They had another great band open for them called Amina: i love the sound of the saw, or what ever it is. it was a great show. I usually listen metal, but this stuff is good sometimes too.

Two 'i's in Amiina And, yes, the girls are excellent. Sadly they weren't with SR this time (first time in about 8 years!) but two of them are about to give birth, so they have a reasonably valid excuse. But we did miss them...
