Hi, folks. It is clear that using Unicode on this forum is certainly to be preferred to other renderings. Unfortunately, I cannot get Netscape to just render my pages in Unicode automatically. I went to Tools>Options>Content>Fonts&Colors>Advanced and set the rendering to use Unicode 8, but every time I actually load up a page it is encoded in Western (ISO-8859-1), which is a most useless encoding only to be preferred by the most comfortably ignorant hillbilly dead set in not having to look at "dem for'ner letters"—i.e., special characters show up always as silly Roman characters with special diacritics, for example, Hebrew. Now, I have been to other websites, and the UTF-8 encoding seems to work fine there, e.g., Wikipedia, but whenever I am here at EvC I get nothing. Is this a cache or cookie problem, or is EvC set up specially to request Western? Thanks folk, [O]ur tiny half-kilogram rock just compeltely fucked up our starship. - Rahvin

Well, logging out, shutting down the browser, clearing the cookies, and restarting it did not seem to fix the problem. This must be some EvC thing, then? [O]ur tiny half-kilogram rock just compeltely fucked up our starship. - Rahvin

Jon, EVC has a meta tag with "charset=iso-8859-1", so this website's pages will not automatically display UTF-8 encoding. Wikipedia has "charset=utf-8", so obviously it properly displays UTF-8 characters. In FireFox and IE you can manually choose the encoding to be used to display a page, but I don't know how or if Netscape allows this. I would strongly recommend using a browser other than Netscape as it is not as well supported browser as FireFox, IE, and Chrome (though Chrome was pretty buggy at first, it's gotten better).

I really like Netscape for its simplicity. I can choose the encoding, but that has to be done for each and every page, and it is daunting ![]() Thank you for your help, though; I guess I am stuck with the way things are.
