One of such old beliefs is Pust our version of Halloween. Originaly the beleief was that putting on masks and ringing big cowbells would scare evil spirits and winter away this belief was later adopted and changed by romans in our aerea, and later the curch tried to root it out never trully succseeding it got incorporated and arround the year 1300 and the date of the celebration was changed to the time before the 40 day fast.
This celebration is a 2 day celebration one on the Sunday (today), and one on Tuesday. On Sunday the kids go trick or treating (our version) candy fruits and whatnot, in regions where there are vineyards the slightly older kids go trick or treating for wine the custom is that each vinyard owner gives a few liters of each wine he makes all of the wine is mixed in to the same container <--- lol
A witch paraded every year in Cerknica a town close to a mountain on wich witches worshiped the devil rode on pigs and brooms and whatnot
Traditional masks from days gone by called Kurenti
and some other masks usualy the not traditional masks get their inspiration from world or nerby events
on this link a bit downwards is a video of the carnival from my home town. small town 4000 people tough i think we did alright.

tough some of the best "wagons" are missing like one where a "transfered guantanamo prisoner" is being fed lobster and champagne and being guarded by a sexy police woman, and observed by obama while our prisoners on a noter portion of the wagon are tightly packed and being harassed by a psycho guard

They have a big party for family and friends. LOL was the first place I ate goat... Goat is gooooood. You can wiki it and get more info than I could provide.
