The first one that comes to mind is the flood story basically a copy the ep of Gilgamesh that was a derived from older stories too. Now saying that your version is the real one while the ep of Gilgamesh was written down at least 1000 years earlier is silly. You think that a 1000 year old telephone game of telling and retelling the story made the story come closer to the truth.
Then the whole Jesus story now that is what i call totally unoriginal.
1: Asklepios, the redeemer long before Christ he raised the dead, healed the sick and was the son of a god.
2: Dionysus was literally the "Son of God", was born of a virgin mother, and was commonly depicted riding a donkey. He healed the sick and turned water to wine. He was killed but was resurrected and became immortal. His greatest accomplishment was his own death, which delivers humanity itself.
3: Osiris born of a virgin, the true king of the people, when he died he rose and went to heaven
4: Osirisis son, was known as the light of the world, the good Sheppard, the lamb, the truth and the life. Wait for it his symbol was the cross
5: Mithra borne on the 25 of December, witnessed by shepherds, had 12 disciples, when he was done he had a final meal and went to heaven. On judgement day he will come back to judge the living and the dead, the good go to hevan the bad go in to a lake of fire, the flowers where called brothers, the leaders fathers, they had baptisms, and the eating of the flesh and blood rituals, o and heaven was in the sky hell down below with daemons and sinners.
6: Krishna had a miraculous conception wise men where able to come because a star guided them, after his birth the ruler of the aerea tried to have him killed, his parrents where warned by a divine messenger, they where then found by sheppards, he grew up to be the mediator between gods and men.
7: Buddha's mother was told by an angel she would give birth to a child that was to be the saviour. as a child he teaches priests about religion when his parents are looking for him, his carrear pick off when he is 30 years old he has 12 disciples, one fo his disciples is his favourite the other a traitor, he and his disciples abstain from wealth travelling the world speaking in methapores and parables, he was called the son of man, or lord, or master, or prophet, he healed the sick, cured the deaf and blind, walked on water,
8: Apollonius of Tyana contemporary of Jesus, preformed miracles, (healing sick and crippled, restored sight, castes out demons, etc.), borne of a virgin, fortold by an angel, knew scripture werry well a s a child, he was crucified, appeared to his disciples to show his power over death before ascending to sit at the right hand of his father, also known as the son of god.
So what do you literalists think this time the story is true, or that it was plagiarised.

Could you maybe not refer to the loyal opposition as "fanatics", and replace "rip-off" and "plagiarized" with other terms like "derived from" or "drew upon"?

ˈpleɪdʒərɪz(ə)m/Polji
noun
1.
the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own.
So the word fits at the end i think i fixed the rest

Christianity, One woman's lie about an affair that got seriously out of hand

Individuals plagiarize. I'm not sure the term applies that well to a culture's evolving mythologies, and I don't think those who study mythology would use the term to describe how myths from one culture find their way into another, particularly in oral traditions. I think your analogy to the game of telephone is much more apt. I'd just like the thread to begin in a way that those with other views won't find offensive.
