Make your June, 2006 POTM nominations here. Format:
Author: author's name
Forum: the forum where posted
Thread: the thread title
Message: the particular posted message number
Your nomination should include a link to the nominated article, and a short comment on why you are nominating (or seconding).
As always, this is not a thread for debates. Posts should be limited to nomination, seconds, acceptance statements by nominee.
{Added by edit: I think another nice touch is to include the authors name and topic/thread title as a subtitle. I have added by edit such to Percy's message 2 in this topic. - Adminnemooseus)
Edited by Admin, : Fix month and format.

Crashfrog at "The definition of science: What should it be?"
This is probably the shortest message ever nominated for a POTM, and perhaps many members will think it not worthy, but once again Crashfrog cuts to the core of the issue:
Forum: [forum=-11]
Thread: The definition of science: What should it be?
Message: Message 8
I'll quote it in full:
crashfrog writes:
How does one pursue the supernatural?
I dunno. What is it?

Edited by Adminnemooseus, : Added subtitle.

iano, in explaining how the bible should be read.
Forum: [forum=-6]
Thread: What Does the Second Coming Entail?
Message: Message 94
for a classic example of a blind, unfaltering, dogmatic mindset , made even more poignant by the fact that it comes from an otherwise very intelligent poster.

"In life, you have to face that some days you'll be the pigeon and some days you'll be the statue."
And somedays you'll be both going by the two-tone nature of nomination
Thank you for the kind words and thank you for nod towards a post of mine (to be read in the context of an assumption stated within the first half of the first sentence in the post I was responding to)

Re: iano, in explaining how the bible should be read. - An admin comment
I'm uncertain if this nomination is within the intents of the "Post of the Month" (POTM) forum. It also seems to be working the edges of violating forum guideline 10, "Always treat other members with respect...".
Legend writes:

I think the POTM forum is a place to cite messages that you find to be well done and/or exceptionally informative. Perhaps Legend did find the nominated message to be "exceptionally informative".
Bottom line: In my opinion, a problimatic POTM nomination. Maybe it belongs here, maybe it doesn't. I thought the situation called for some admin type comment.
-----
Please, do not debate the cited topic in this POTM topic. Take such back to the cited topic.
Also, if you feel the need to respond to this moderator message, go do it at the "General..." topic, link below. Please supply a link back to this message.

rgb, at "I still want a different word for 'gay marriage'"
Author: rgb
Forum: Coffee House
Thread: I still want a different word for 'gay marriage'
Message: 15
Includes:
The gay marriage issue comes up during every election time, let it be local or federal. It is nothing more than to draw out the religious right to the voting booths. ... Don't pay attention to any other issue, just vote for us...
and
The facts that the politicians are using this for political gain and the religious right don't seem to catch on that they're being used by their own representatives justify why I referred to them as pawns.
The problem of any variety of "single issue" voter, be s/he of the right or left. I hope I remember to quote this messages content in other relevant politics topics.

Thanks, Ned. I was a bit afraid that my "rant" would end up closing off the conversation in that thread. But it appears that it is continuing nicely.

Dear John
John A. Davison in the Showcase thread.
http://EvC Forum: A Prescribed Evolutionary Hypothesis -->EvC Forum: A Prescribed Evolutionary Hypothesis
Naturally, I am enjoying the relative silence-of-any-substance which speaks volumes about the ToE-tussle on this site. My enjoyment is a shabby one however. Let it be known that were a relative battleship to enter the waters of my own positions then it could well be that I too would find myself caught rabbit-in-the-headlights like.
No. What is most enjoyable is the sheer exhuberance and confidence of this 78 year old man. Comments aimed at ridicule serve him not - no more than they serve any of us. But having been through what I can only imagine him having been through, then it would be curlish to concentrate on that.
Bring on Richard Dawkins I say. We can all take a break and have a bit of good old fashioned FUN!
Great notion, the Showcase Thread - thus far.
(added by edit)
JAD writes:
Showcase is not entertainment for me. I am deadly serious.
Conflicting views notwithstanding, some here feel precisely the same way regarding positions held in the the various discussions they find themselves in. The 'fun' referred to above should not be taken to indicate that that mindset is in the least dissolved. This is indeed the most serious business of all.
Edited by iano, : No reason given.

Re: Dear John
I have already invited Richard Dawkins, Michael Behe, Jonathan Wells, William Dembski, MIchael Ruse, Phillip Johnson and William Provine by personal email to participate in my First Annual Open Tournament of Evolutionary Mechanisms on my blog:
prescribedevolution.blogspot.com
Only Behe and Wells responded, both claiming they were too busy writing. No one within cybershot produced his 500 word essay summarizing his convictions. I naturally assumed that either no one had any or, more probably, was ashamed to present it. I remain content that my published "Prescribed Evolutionary Hypothesis" is the only viable hypothesis for the mechanism behind the great mystery of phylogeny, a phenomenon no longer in progress.

"A past evolution is undeniable, a present evolution undemonstrable."
