The "Posts of the Month" forum index page.
These topics listed at the above page are still available for additions.
-----
Now for January 2005 (as per previous months):
quote:
Please post your votes for the January, 2005, Post of the Month here. Include author, forum name, thread name, post number, eg:
Name: Velvet Tongue
Forum: Evolution
Thread: I'm no monkey
Post #: 17
A link to the message, and perhap a SHORT comment would also be nice. But, this is NOT a place to debate the referenced topic - so be nice.
I think that a fairly liberal use of this topic would be a good thing for indexing some nice messages that are otherwise doomed to be lost in the clutter. So, if you encounter a message that seems to say something of special substance, please give it a plug/reference in this topic.
New year, new month, same old message and routine,

More good stuff elsewhere in the topic, but this one is the one I'll flag.
Also, most likely other POTM's, in various topics, are not getting their mention. Seems like would should be able to get at least one POTM per day out of this forum.

Quetzal on scientific lingo; Also on evolution - fact and theory
Name: Quetzal
Forum: Biological Evolution II
Thread: Evolution is a basic, biological process
Post #: 99
The language of science is often confusing and/or unintelligible to non-scientists. This is not, as you implied, an attempt to obfuscate or blow smoke. The terminology used by scientists is a shorthand that is designed to facilitate communication between scientists in the same field.
Q also goes on to a truly fine presentation of what a theory is, and why evolution is both a fact and a theory.
Dare I say, a "Sylas Quality" posting?

Dshortt for a summary that is clear
Message 182
Dshortt takes a needed breather and summarizes the state of the discussion. I think he is reasonable (or better than) clear in his position too.
I many not agree and think there are serious flaws but it is well done anyway. It will take some time to point out the flaws in detail. I don't think current responses have been up to the standard of this post.

Obviously I don't entirely agree - at least so far as quality of argument goes. Maybe I ought to write the post I was thinking of doing which explains why a pragmatic assumption that human reason is effective is the best we can do.

This forum for POTM nominations and thank you notes only
PaulK's message was pretty moderate, but I do wish to remind him and all that this forum is NOT the place to debate the content of the message.
PaulK's message would probably better be at the cited topic.
Please, no replies to this message. Any such would also be out of bounds for this forum.

No special Post for Schrafinator
I'm not going to supply a specific post. I've just realized that every time I see Schraf's nic on a post I make a point of reading it first.
Only a few stand out but her minimum quality is very high.

Re: No special Post for Schrafinator
That's an interesting nomination. When perusing a thread I usually check yours to get a good sign of where things are as the "minimum standard" of your posts are (to my mind) consistently higher than most. There are a few others with equal/better, but then they don't post as much.

A thread for ALL TIME
I would like to nominate Message 1 as one of the great all time threads. The photos are outstanding, the information clear and concrete and it simply gets better and better. This is without a doubt the best thread on geology I've seen here so far.

Re: No special Post for Schrafinator
Jim pointed out this nice comment from you, thank you very much.
In the same vein, I'd like to nominate Crashfrog and holmes for generally giving really well-reasoned, thoughtful posts on a wide variety of subjects.

My previous POTM nomination was also to Q, for message 99 in this same topic. All the "Biological Evolution II" stuff has now been moved to "Biological Evolution".
Actually, many others have also done very nice contributions to this topic. Someday I need to get back to reading all the messages.
