Re: Modulous and artificial selection
Seconded.
Certainly an impressive expression of thoughts, modulous

cavediver vs Mr. Logic
Author: cavediver
Forum: Big Bang and Cosmology
Thread: The Big Bang is NOT Scientific
Message: 25
Perhaps POTM wasn't intended for this sort of thing, but I have to give cavediver some praise for expressing what I (and others) frequently feel.
If Mr Logic has the gall to think that the universe should somehow bow down to his concept of "common sense" and plain English, then I'm afraid Mr Logic will only ever be a bystanding spectator.
While I do have a little sympathy for folks who feel the universe should behave according to "common sense", one should always be aware that data always trumps "common sense". I have less sympathy for people who will not accept clear, plain evidence because it violates their sense of morality or threatens their view of their role in the universe.
Remember folks: the universe is what it is regardless what you want it to be.

Great post by anglagard

A great post asking why those who deny evolution are denying what god is telling them in favor of dogma:
Creationism is against physics, chemistry, geology, engineering, anthropology, linguistics, agriculture, history, and of course logic. Evidently it is also against the billions of people such humanistic (pro-human as opposed to anti-human?) endeavors have saved, at least physically.
My question, as I have posted in other forums, is essentially what kind of God does one worship? Is it the God that rewards good deeds regardless of birthplace, age, race, creed, or national origin? Or is the god that revels in human suffering, that punishes natural curiosity, that hurts those who seek God instead of those who blindly follow any self-appointed prophet?

Jar is frequently challenged for his positions on Faith, and this is another excellent post where he lays it all down for the folk to see. I may not agree with jar totally, but I am getting closer every time I read his stuff!

In general, a pretty well done topic if you're into that sort of thing.
Message 8 may well not really be on topic, but it is a different perspective that I find interesting.
Quoting a paragraph:
If this were the case then he, Jesus, would be what Hindus call an avatar and Buddhist call a Buddha. That is he was an actual human being with a functioning human nervous system and all that entails but he had lost the sense of himself as a separate individual and experienced the wholeness that he was part of and thus is. There are a number of sayings attribute to Jesus that point to this such as those where he says he does nothing but it's the father doing through him. This is because awakening involves the loss of the sense of being a separate doer and instead experiencing oneself as just one node that the whole chain of causation as it were were happening through.
My "bolds".

Trixie as a parent and Christian
Message 44
The end of this made tears well up. Those of us heathens here are educated over and over in the difference between the "true" Christians and those other cultists. This is just a tiny reminder.
(I hope some of you remember that there are different kinds of "Canadians" too. )

Truthlover goes into great depth and scholastic accumen to add to our collective understanding of the other side of EvC What is a Christian? understanding. Many of us have Jewish philosophical roots underpinning our works and behavior orientation as to our understanding of Christian philosophy yet truthlover explains why he (and several of us) believe another way.

Ominovorus and the tired old murder victim analogy
Author: Omnivorous
Forum: Is It Science?
Thread: Creationists: Why is Evolution Bad Science?
Message:#178
The "compare the evidence for evolution to the evidence in a murder investigation" is an old analogy. But I like how Omnivorous phrased it this time. The first piece of evidence raises suspicions, the next confirms the suspicions, and then the addition of more evidence nails down the conclusion decisively.

I have to correct a spelling mistake here, you misspelt capitalists as marxists.

It might be improved if he said: "marxists" is spelled c-a-p-i-t-a-l-i-s-t-s.
The Doc manages to say a lot in a little. It's one of those: "I wish I'd said that."
Since the respondee hasn't had a correct statement in a post yet treating the post with as much humour as possible seems particularly appropriate.
