From the closed "Who's Avatar is Best/Are Women Archers Lesbians?" thread:
Rei writes:
I'm talking about that if I ran into such a woman, I would give her better odds of being a lesbian than being straight (unless it was in a "costume" context as opposed to a reality context, which the picture does not appear indicative of).
I have to know, Rei - in what reality context do lesbians wear armor and do archery where you live? When do women dress like elves if not in a costume context?
I guess what I'm asking you is, why would you assume that a woman shooting arrows in armor is gay given that almost all women who wear armor and shoot arrows are straight?

Your example of the last picture that you showed of a woman in armor precisely proved my point; I stated that for a woman to appear equally feminine in armor, she would have to be wearing low-cut armor, holding her sword without confidence, have long hair, etc. What do you present? A woman with low-cut armor, not even holding a sword, with long hair, etc. I talk about how a woman wearing a tuxedo is appearing "butch". What do you present? A tuxedo altered to be more feminine than a tutu.
A real (i.e., not costume) female warrior clad in full armor taking part in completely physical combat falls under the same category as female weight lifters or kickboxers in my book: much higher odds of being lesbian or bi than your average woman. It's not a guarantee, but there are never guarantees of sexuality. It's just what (*overused cliche warning!!!*) sets your gaydar off.
Some questions for you:
1) What clues are there in the picture to suggest that this is some sort of a "costume"? The picture is clearly posed in an alternate-reality context. Would you disagree with this?
2) Do you actually believe that the majority of people in Minnesota would describe "aggressiveness" as being a feminine trait, as opposed to masculine, as the implication was in your earlier posts?
3) Do you honestly believe that women who take part in highly aggressive athletics have the same sexuality distribution as the average population? I'll put it this way: back in high school, when the women's basketball team went on the road, the coach had to get several rooms and distribute the team members so as to break the couples up.
Here's what we have to go on with this picture:
A) Clearly aggressive and athletic; an antithesis of "dainty"
B) Not as a costume
C) Clad up to the eyebrows in thick, heavy armor, for fighting
D) Wielding a weapon, for fighting.
E) No visible signs of long hair (although it can't be ruled out).
My senses say lesbian.

.. we should probably include the woman being discussed.
It was someone's avatar.

{AM says - I know you have a personal website, where you stash such things. You might wish to put the art there. If the avatar in question is changed, it's going to change in this message also}

Regardless... Lesbian archers for Rei? Jeez, Crash, did it occur to you that the rest of us might like some lesbian archers as well?
I hope you brought enough for everyone, young man!

I think you're looking at the shadows of the bowstring and helmet. Other people's take?

Rei's point number 3 reminded me of something.
From what I remember of high school basketball, the majority (an overwhelming majority, in fact) of the best female players were lesbians. Of course at the time no one really knew this and they were referred to as 'tomboys.' That's not to say all 'tomboys' are lesbians, however, but I suspect they lean more in that direction (on average).

It looks like hair to me. The dark line has a slight bend in it and doesn't appear to follow the shape of the face appropriately.

If you're going for examples of straight girls in armor, Xena is a terrible example.

1) Joan of Arc
I can't believe you brought this subject up. Ignoring the stylistic picture (which looks feminine because, as I mentioned before, holding the sword femininely, the long flowing hair, and in this case additionally a serene face and olive branches), Joan of Arc. Joan is considered by many to be an F2M (Female to Male transsexual); she was tried and executed for cross dressing, even refusing to give up men's clothes at her trial (she temporarily gave them up, thinking that she would get a reprieve if she did; when she didn't, she resumed wearing them - "to the scorn of feminine modesty", to quote from her trial). She wore a men's hair style, spent her time hanging out only with men, etc. Her virginity was even "tested" by the Duchess of Bedford while being held in Rouen (Dworkin mistakenly says that she was tested by the Burgundians), because they wanted to show that she was sexually promiscuous; they came to the conclusion that she was still a virgin (to which she later commented at her trial, "Ha! You take great care to put down in your trial everything that is against me, but you will not write down anything that is for me!").
At the bare minimum, she would distinctly have been an extremely "butch" warrior girl.
Besides, the portrait is wrong. Joan's armor was white (given to her by Charles VII, who had it custom-made). Her sword (destroyed when she slayed a prostitute after a failed attack on Paris), is wrong (it had a near constant-width handle except for near the end, the guard was far thinner, it had an outward bulge starting from the base of blade that narrows a few inches later, etc). The sword pictured here is more like the virtual one on her coat of arms. Joan cut her hair "short and round in the fashion of men". I could go on if you would like....
2) Xena
If you're not aware of the homoerotic underpinnings of Xena, you've probably never watched the show. It's sort of a running joke that Gabriel is in love with Xena. I remember one episode in which they have Gabriel appear as if she's about to admit that she's a lesbian, and instead she says that she's a "thespian".
3) The Statue of Liberty
How is this relevant to the conversation?

If that's hair, it would appear to be coming from her eyebrow - it doesn't connect to the rest of her head. Or do you see something that I'm not seing?

Do you really mean Xena, or the person Xena plays in real life? Anyway, Xena is the character Schrafinator personally identifies with, so if you're implying that Xena is a lesbian then may God have mercy on your soul.

Xena. Like Rei says, there's the running joke about Xena/Gabrielle, and on top of that... there's an episode where Xena has her mind put in Bruce Campbell's body, and proceeds to get her freak on with Gabrielle.
"Homoerotic underpinnings" doesn't begin to cover it.

I think Schraf is comfortable with her sexuality, so as not to feel threatened.

Percy,
Watch the show before you comment more. Just a recommendation.
