In this search of origins there seems to be no end to divisiveness, and controversy. Has anyone truly studied the texts of the scripture? How much time have you devoted to trying to examine them to see if perhaps they are talking about things like reincarnation, the big bang, and evolution? Most people accept the traditional approach to the texts, and that has always been a chain. Those who accept tradition without question, are not truly in the spirit (Character) of the teachings within them. The first recorded monotheism was that of the Egyptian ATEN, it is mentioned in the Bible as Levy-ATEN. I have some examples of evidence for this supposition. Its now your ball, let me know what you think. shalom

Although some of us might compare such a questionable exploit to an attempt to find evidence of pop culture in ‘sense and sensibility’. Why the bible, why not try to find evidence for the big bang in ‘Alice in Wonderland’ or the history essay I wrote last night?

I don't think your statement about Aten is correct. I'm fairly sure that an older monotheistic religion is described in the Prisse papyrus, which would place a monotheistic religion in Egypt around 1000 years before Moses.
From the little I do know about Aten, I understand there may be some evidence to indicate that YHWH and Aten apparently bear remarkable similarities (both being variations on the phrase 'I am what I am') as well as speculation that Moses and Akhenaten may have been the same person.
