Ok... so the streets in heaven are paved with gold... so what does that mean? The bible says we should not give way to false idols and not give in to greed...well people often wear gold, it's kind of like an idol, and gold = money = greed... so whats the point... I don't understand it. Does anyone understand what I am trying to get at here? It's like a contradiction to me... What do you think?
I think the meaning of this phrase is that in Heaven the occupants have no need for wealth and the trappings of wealth. It implies that the location is so rich in other things that we can use gold as more of a worthless product that we would even walk on it as we would stones or sand. Since Heaven is not corporeal we must assume that gold here has nothing to do with a physical gold and it must be representative only of wealth or something of great value. This gold becomes worthless as compared to other goodies in the city that the road leads to.
