As part of their continued efforts to piss all over their own contribution to freedom of speech, YouTube have outdone themselves. They have suspended the channel of the James Randi Educational Foundation.
This move is pretty baffling. Very little information is available, but it is hard to resist the suspicion that some kook complained about the beastly treatment they had received from those cruel JREF bullies. I have no idea why YouTube are so keen to roll over.
If you would like to complain to YouTube about this go here. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and click on "new issue". Be sure to select "suspended account" in the options. Thanks.

I'm trying to verify for myself that the JREF channel was actually suspended. What do I click on or search for to get some kind of "access denied" or "channel suspended" message?

The suspension happened around 30 March.

As for an explanation to why youtube (aka google) did this, I'm guessing a crook complained and threatened youtube of a lawsuit. This wouldn't be the first time youtube suspended videos based solely on the fear of being sued by crooks and liars. Kent Hovind comes to mind. I'm pretty sure Popoff or some other christian liar threatened youtube into submission.

Until we get an explanation as to why the channel was suspended I see no reason to sling mud at YouTube. If they've received a copyright infringement report under the DMCA, as I understand it, they have no rational choice but to pull the channel.
This likely isn't case of bad practice by YouTube but a consequence of shoddy law-making by the US government.

Actually, the DCMA has provisions for protecting providers against frivolous claims of infringement. This has been a problem for YouTube: They dump first and ask questions later when the law states otherwise.

Thank you for your submission to Science. Your paper was reviewed by a jury of seventh graders so that they could look for balance and to allow them to make up their own minds. We are sorry to say that they found your paper "bogus," specifically describing the section on the laboratory work "boring." We regret that we will be unable to publish your work at this time.

I was under the impression that this would result in the vids in question being pulled, not suspension of the account???

JREF YouTube Account Back Online
JREF is back. Apparently, the problem was a copyright infringement which has been resolved. Randi, in the video below, is keen not to blame YouTube. I am less sure. I think they need a better system for dealing with this type of thing. Taking down the whole channel just seems over the top. Nonetheless, the problem seems to have been dealt with.
