Author | Topic: Genetic Evidence of Major Changes in Body Shapes | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
sld Inactive Member |
Scientists at the University of California, San Diego have discovered genetic evidence of large scale alterations in body plans. The research demonstrates clearly how early aquatic crustaceans with limbs in all body segments could evolve into the six legged insects we love to stomp on today. Publication of the full article is to come in Nature shortly, but an advanced online summary is available at nature.com. In Drosophila and other insects, certain Hox proteins are expressed largely in the abdominal segments, where they can suppress thoracic leg development during the embyro's development. In a branchiopod crustacean, these same Hox proteins are expressed in both thorax and abdomen but don't repress limbs. During animal evolution activation and repression of Hox proteins results in large morphologic changes. This report simply demonstrates the proof of this mechanism. Now which Creationist on this board was bemoaning the lack of evidence for a mechanism for morphological changes?

What 24 hours after my post and no creationist response? Come on, we finally have genetic proof of a mechanism for macroevolution. Isn't that what you creationists have been demanding?

Give them some time....they're probably all praying that this discovery will fall flat on its noze before they are forced to face it in debates...

you guys are really bein jerks, but ill just reply with... when did god ever say that animals couldnt mutate. who is to say that god isnt the cause behind this mutations? all it does is prove that things change and no one claims that things never change.

God didn't say that, but many creationists claim it. The types of changes in the above article violate nearly every claim of YECs and most OECs. Please respond substantively to the scientific content of the article if you wish to make some claim regarding God's intervention.

well then i cant respond, since i dont care what other creationists claim to believe. i cant even come up with more to write since i dont know all too much about science. anyway go sea creatures that can turned into bugs. i just hope they kill all the nonfaithful :-) lol.

quote: Creationism/Theology has alredy retreated to a position where "micro" evolution can occur, ruling out major changes in body plan. What this research shows is that major changes in body plan ARE allowed, & CAN happen. Macro evolution, no less. Did creation science allow this? No, This is why it is so relevant to the discussion. that proves little more than a few creationists were narrow minded.

quote: No, it shows that "macro" evolution can occur. ALL YECs deny this. Mark ------------------Occam's razor is not for shaving with.

quote: 1/ I'm not sure of your position? Are you a YEC? Do you accept macroevolution? Are you christian? 2/ Macroevolution is exclusive of the YEC position, there isn't enough time, whether that position is yours or not. My comments aren't directed at you specifically, but the YEC movement in general. Again, this why this study is important. It shows macroevolution can occur. if we i can go from being sperm and egg to being a human in 9 months then i think that any kind of transformation or mutation is plausible. thats a lot of change in my eyes. you still havent proven human mutation either so i guess i can agree with it and still be considered the faithful lutheran i am.
btw what is a YEC? ------------------"Overspecialize and you breed in weakness" -"Major" Motoko Kusanagi

Human mutation is observed quite frequently. What are you asking for?

Why? Evolution doesn't posit macromutations. Would you care to deal with the actual theory of evolution, or do you feel like you can just make it up?
