This thread is intended for those that have gardens. Here's what I just harvested. Got about a dozen more outside.
Question: What do I do with these? I don't remember planting them. They just started popping up along my back fence.

They are gourds.
According to this link, it says it is an "Mexican Bottle" gourd, specifically.
You can use them as decorations, and you can dry them too, to turn them into birdhouses, paint, polish, wax, shellac, or carve them, etc.
Here's a link.
Some examples:

If I recall my personal trivia accurately, PurpleDawn does some wild and wonderful things with gourds.
As for harvest, we just had our Thanksgiving on Monday. I'm not going to suggest that Canadians are more thankful than Americans. It's just that we have less to be thankful for in November - a.k.a. the dead of winter.

So, these aren't edible?
I guess I'll dry and decorate them. Got about 20 or so of these guys to experiment with.

As for harvest, we just had our Thanksgiving on Monday
What does a Canadian Thanksgiving entail, exactly? I am woefully ignorant about my northern neighbors' customs (I should educate myself as I might be considering moving up for a spell).

I'm not sure of the exact type of gourd you have, but many gourds are edible..."skins" and all. I was recently made privy to this when I dined at a restaurant which had mushroom stuffed "jack be little" pumpkins. I was told that it depends on how you prepare them. If you steam many types of gourds the skin softens, but the flavor isn't necessarily brought out. However, if you slowly roast them, the skin, again, softens and they can be quite delectable (depending on pairing with other foods). Also, the insides of many gourds are edible (depending on variety and taste). Some are purely for decorative purposes, tho. I can't tell you which category your gourds fall into, but you could always look it up. It could be a nice treat.
You could probably make some wicked "jack-o-lanterns" with those!
Post pics if you do

It's pretty much like the American Thanksgiving, I think, except that we don't have the whole Pilgrims 'n' Indians thing - and our football only has three downs.

Gourds!!
Great gourds! If they are mature you could sell them for about $3 each if you don't know what to do with them. If they aren't mature or the shell isn't thick enough they will collapse when they dry.
You can also dry them over the winter, by putting them in a well ventilated area. I put mine in the barn on chicken wire. The skin will mildew and can be washed of next spring. (Since they mildew it is best not to keep them inside or touching anything you like.) Then you can sell them for $5-$8. In the midwest it is common. They don't last long when I have the plain ones up for sale.
I like to green clean mine. It makes them a nice tan, no spots. They usually charge more for green cleaned gourds.
Here are a few of my gourd creations.
