Generally, some of us Americans think you guys sound funny when you talk. Well, when I say we, I mean we mideast and eastern part of the United States. To us, southern accents, Canadian, English, and Australian accents sound funny.
What about you guys? Do you guys find our accent funny as well? The Laminator

Oh, come now. You know darn well that Americans (northern) are too ethnocentric to think that way. To us, our accent is the normal one

I'm originally from the UP...I KNOW I sound funny
Canadians sound normal to me. British and Australian just sound sexy. Asgara "Embrace the pain, spank your inner moppet, whatever....but get over it" http://asgarasworld.bravepages.com

I'm Irish, not Australian, but I think I'm qualified to answer this question...
I find most American accents to be just a little funny. (Don't ask me to name any seeing as I've no idea what accent comes from where.) Mostly I think it has to do with the speed - Americans talk reeeeeeeallllly sllllooooooowwwwwwwly in comparison, and if you're used to talking at high speed it sounds funny. My dad went to Boston when he was younger, and ended up meeting a guy from his home town - and while they were chatting one of his American friends asked if they were speaking Gaelic! The Rock Hound

Now see we get that differentiation between the North and South. I'm from up north but lived in Texas for several years. And the difference between a southern drawl and a northern accent with regards to speed is huge.
I'm sitting there looking at my watch going.."Can't you hurry up?" and they're sitting there going "Y ' a l l t a l k s o f a s t u p t h e r e" (oh, and I forgot...Irish, Scottish and Welsh accents are sexy too) Asgara "Embrace the pain, spank your inner moppet, whatever....but get over it" http://asgarasworld.bravepages.com

That's a bit weird, because even north American accents sound slow to me. And the southern drawls make me feel like I'm hearing the audio equivalent of a snail trying to climb Everest.
What REALLY makes me laugh is when I hear American actors trying to do Irish accents ("Far and Away", anyone?). The Rock Hound

I have to admit that whenever I hear a Scottish person talking on TV I absolutely cringe, but so many foreign students have told me that the Scots accent is great. Maybe if they listened to it everyday they would change their minds.

A note on geographies:
Asgara writes: British and Australian just sound sexy. ...
Asgara writes: (oh, and I forgot...Irish, Scottish and Welsh accents are sexy too) British refers to England, Scotland and Wales. The UK includes those plus Northern Ireland. Ireland itslelf is seperate, but I'm glad you think we all sound sexy! There are many regional accents in England alone, and the same, I'm sure, can be said of other countries. So, what are you guys basing your judgments on? I once worked for a US company (based in Illinois), and found their accent not very noticable, but films and media give us a different picture/sound.

Actually, I shouldn't have said "we" or "us" when I refered to American accent, because I don't have American accent either. I have a heavy Asian accent, as you can imagine.
