In this message, Arkathon wrote:
Why do some police forces use psyhics to help in some cases, if there is no measureable supernatural?
to which I responded:
A common urban legend. No police forces regularly use psychics, and on those few occasions where a police force has accepted the "help" proffered by a psychic, that "help" has been useless and often has led in a totally wrong direction. Psychics make claims ... but they're all false.
(meaning, of course, that psychics make claims about helping the police and they're all false). And, in turn, Arkathon responded:
Woah! All false? Nostradamus, Jeanne Dixon on JFK murder, etc. I couls see you saying 50%, or 30%, or 23% false. But I could dig up many many hundreds easy, if this were not a cosmos thread, to knock that arguement right out from under you.
OK, Arkathon, here you are. Let's see your objective evidence of police using psychics. I am not interested in mere claims from psychics, I'm interested in documented objective evidence that is not an after-the-fact interpretation, and we are talking about your claim that "police use psychics", not any other possible psychic phenomena (you want to talk about others, start a thread). What psychics have helped police solve crimes? Let's see your evidence that Nostradamus helped police, or that Jeanne Dixon did.

And let's also hope that some "psychic" foreseeing a bomb on an airliner and causing the cancellation of a flight in Florida the other day isn't the start of a trend.

I've heard of this story, too. I think it may be just that whenever "bomb" and "airplane" are used in the same sentence flights are automatically cancelled. The fact that the sentence was uttered by a psychic may have little to do with it. (I may be wrong - I haven't read the original report.)

bomb and airplane?
What you seem to be saying is that any nutcase can phone anytime and shut down flights?
If this is true of the security system then it is not, as is probably intended, more secure but clearly will break down in chaos. It is only appearing to be more secure.

Re: bomb and airplane?
I'm sure that there must be some filter in place to prevent any nutcase from shutting down an airport. I'm just suggesting that there may be more to the story that the authorities relying on a psychic prediction. After all, I would expect that "psychic" would somehow fall under the "nutcase" category. The authorities must get lots of calls from people claiming psychic ability. I suspect that there were other aspects in this situation that automatically triggered an alarm. Let me repeat, though, I don't have all the facts of this particular case myself.
