Amazing (albeit somewhat dated) speech from Neil deGrasse Tyson about how scientists in the past invoked god when they reached their knowledge limit. I'ts wonderful how he points out how the likes of Newton, Galileo and others DID, in fact, invoke intelligent design, but only after they had exhausted all of their means.
On a side note, I have been watching a number of videos about Neil on Youtube today. He really is one of the great minds of our day. Everything he says makes so much logical sense. There is another video I watched where he was asked whether he believed in UFO's or not. He put it all on the line and explained beautifully our need for actual evidence and why HARD evidence is a necessity for science.
Enjoy!

For anyone interested in it, I started quite a debate about it a few years back in Intelligent design. Philosophy of ignorance., maybe someone can open a follow up debate proposal?
This video is from the Beyond Belief conference of 2006. I wouldn't consider it dated at all.
The conference was attended by many other prestigious scientists in addition to Neil deGrasse Tyson, including Steven Weinberg (Nobel laureate), Lawrence Krauss, Richard Dawkins, Paul Davies, Sam Harris, and Carolyn Porco (Cassini space probe) . All the videos may be found here: Beyond Belief: Science, Religion, Reason and Survival
I'll poke around that thread and see what I find. Neil's presentation (and every other one I watched yesterday) really got me thinking, he got my gears turning.

Well, typing in "Beyond Belief 2007" in google gave me this page as the first hit. Is that what you wanted? It seems to be from 2007, and has videos and shit.
