Sitting out Irene in upper Narragansett Bay.
So far some heavy wind and rain, but not too bad. Some small tree limbs down next door. We are past high tide, and the street has not flooded yet, although the gutters are full (street has history of flooding), and I have no water in my basement yet.
Power out since ~8am so my sump pumps won't work if the water does come in.
Operating on batteries for
- phone
- laptop
- internet (mifi aircard)
these can be recharged from the car with the inverter I have, unfortunately it is not strong enough to power the sump pump. I also have plenty of candles and a flashlight with spare batteries for nighttime.
Spent last two days clearing the yard and tying things down, getting food etc to sit it out, and now am doing the sitting.
Anyone else?
Enjoy

I've been out and around the house to check on conditions, and the gusts are strong enough to blow me around a bit.
Sat out a Tropical Storm on Mississippi gulf coast so I have an idea what to expect.
Thanks

We lost power a couple hours ago, but the generator is working. I just checked the outage map for New Hampshire, and the PSNH website site has slowed to a crawl. After waiting for 10 minutes while the page slowly filled in I got everything but the map itself. At least they're consistent.
We've go winds up to maybe 30 mph and heavy rain right now. There's never any flooding here, but if the rain gets heavy then it might wash out the roads below us. Heavy winds will likely bring down many trees, and it was probably a tree that took out the power.
Needless to say, we're staying in today. We've still got phone, cable TV and cable Internet.

My biggest concern is flooding, with the pumps out. This is now the status out front
Not too bad, and the tide is now going down, so this should drain out.

Power just came back. TWC hurricane tracker says we're in the region of maximum wind speed but wind is very calm now and rain is light. It'd be nice if we didn't get the high winds.

Power still out here, but batteries holding. I can cook with gas (just have to ignite the old fashion way - with a match) and that means I can boil water (hello coffee ...)
The street is now back to normal, as expected once the tide went down. I have a little water in the basement now, ~2" at the low corner with the other corners dry. Everything is up 12 to 18" so no problems yet. It's an old house with stone foundation and the normal water table is just below the slab that covers the bottom. If the water table goes down so will the water in the basement.
Enjoy.

Looking like pretty much of a dud here, very little going on, was actually able to convince the cats to go out.

Now that it has calmed down, it looks like some minor damage -- a couple of shingles blown off but no leak (tarpaper underpad still good). My good neighbor Ed has let me plug the sump pumps in to his generous generator, and the basement is now back to (relative) normal conditions.
Hope everyone fares as good or better.

We lost power around noon yesterday and were still out when I left for work this morning around 8:30. We seem to live on a "low priority" branch of the power system; when we loose it, we don't get it back in a hurry. We bought a Honda 5kW generator a few years back. It was expensive but worth it. I feed my whole house with it, even 220, although I haven't tried to run the clothes drier while on generator power.
Got a little water in the basement through a foundation crack I thought I had managed to seal. Not nearly as bad as other occasions in the past.
