It seems that cytokines may be one of the keys to Alzheimer's. By injecting patients with one of the cytokines responsible for immune response in the brain (tumor necrosis factor-alpha), "we can see cognitive and behavioral improvement in a patient with established dementia within minutes of therapeutic intervention".
