My favorite beers are Boddinger's and Sam Adams, though if I'm strapped for cash I always enjoy Lion's Head.

I must admit to having a much greater appreciation for wine and hard ciders than beers, but I do enjoy a belgian wheat beer now and then.
I really don't like the taste of hops.

Having lived about 6 years in Germany, I have certainly come to appreciate their beer. I am not a big fan of stout beers but Salvator which is brewed during lent is really good. Though it does have a tendency to make poorly coordinated fat German men dance on tables which is a really bad side effect imo.
Augustiner is the best lager beer I have ever had. Tegernsee Hell and Andechs are also really tasty. Jever is a good pilsner though it is rather bitter for most peoples tastes. I have found it on tap in New York City. There are thousands of small to medium size breweries throughout Germany...6 years has not been enough time to try them all out. Have not had a bad one yet though...except for their one export beer, Lwenbrau which is as bad as any major label American beer.

Well, to me it depends on a variety of factors. First off, is it out of a tap, bottle, or can? Second, when/why am I drinking it. Third, what sort of mood am I in? Fourth, how much money do I have at that time?
All-in-all, if it's out of a tap, I'd have to say the Guinness is perhaps the best thing going (if, of course, nitrogen is used, NOT CO2 (as is so often the case in bars in my town)). Although it is not a stout, if you can get Stella Artois on tap...go for it! If not, get it in cans. And who can pass up a Bloody B (Boddingtons)? As for bottled beer, Sam Smith's Russian Imperial Stout is tops, but there are so many micro-brews nowadays that I'm sure there is something out there equally as good (if not better) that I have yet to try. Bells has some really good stouts. Celebrator Doppelbock is also a very good dark beer. Sometimes, though, a Stout is not what I'm looking for. So I also enjoy Upper Canada and Sleemans Cream Ale. Dead guy ale is good, as is Arrogant Bastard. Anchor Old Foghorn is great stuff; I recommend it to anyone that can find it. Personally, I think fruity beers suck, as do pumpkin beers (and I'm not going to argue about whether or not a pumpkin is a fruit). Sorry Crashfrog, but you might as well drink a friggen wine cooler if you're gonna drink a fruit beer.

I am surprised to hear that about Lwenbrau. I drank Lowenbrau on tap in Munich and Frankfurt in the 80s, and it was superb, but then again, it wasn't for export.

Abita makes (once made?) several very nice beers just across the lake from New Orleans - Abita Amber and Turbodog stick in my mind.
Dos Equis is Mexican, but a surprisingly good ripoff of a mild German beer. And Singha, from Thailand, is the best hot-weather/spicy-food beer in the universe! Not at all strong-flavored, though with plenty of body, and just the barest hint of ginger....makes it very, very wet. ABE: I nearly forgot! Orangeboom, on tap in Amsterdam. Yum! i really liked the czech pilsner he bought. Pilsner Urquell is the one I saw most often in the States (but that was in the early '90s).
and there's that british one with the star on it but i can't remember it's name... Newcastle Brown Ale? I wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then

Love Guinness on tap...
The Wine & Liquor store I frequent has an aisle 4 shelves high, 50'long of specialty/microbrewery/imported beers. I've tried quite a few with unfailingly excellent results, but I rarely buy the same thing twice except for Guinness: so many beers, so little time. Besides, I can always remember Guinness--it's in the genes, I think. My favorite drink of the entire week is the beer I crack while I cook Sunday breakfast and listen to blues and/or jazz. I'm also fond of hard ciders. I sometimes drink homemade freezer-distilled applejack, too, but the liver can only take so much of that... Save lives! Click here! Personally, I think fruity beers suck, as do pumpkin beers (and I'm not going to argue about whether or not a pumpkin is a fruit). Sorry Crashfrog, but you might as well drink a friggen wine cooler if you're gonna drink a fruit beer. Well, pumpkin isn't a fruit. And it's not for the taste of pumpkin you drink it; you drink it because it has a delicate nose of nutmeg and other spices. But to hell with you and your irrational hatred of beers with fruit. What makes you think you have the right to call me a girly-man just because you don't like my beer? I tell you what, I'd rather drink with someone who's open to new beer flavors than with someone who still can't get over their oh-so-trendy, juvenile worship of Guiness. Anybody who comes out with Guiness at the top simply isn't drinking enough beers. It's a good enough beer but there's better, trust me.
