Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s stroke was divine punishment for “dividing God’s land.”
“God considers this land to be his,” Robertson said on his TV program “The 700 Club.” “You read the Bible and he says ”This is my land,’ and for any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away, God says, ”No, this is mine.”
Look I'm no fan of Sharon, but can he quit this crap? I can't wait until he gets very ill; what will his explanation be then? If anyone deserves to be punished by god, it's this clown.
Robertson is a clear example of what religion warns about. A man using the name of god to do the work of satan. If people who followed the bible were serious they would denounce this evil assclown. (and yes, I know some christians here have done just that. Kudos to them)

Robertson is after Letterman's job
Awwww,
Don't be too hard on him, Mini. He's just trying to boost his ratings like any good TV performer.
What I'd really like to see happen is Mel Brooks jump in and make one more smash hit like "Producers". Only it would be called "Evangelists".

Old men don't just get strokes!
Come come, do you have any EVIDENCE that men approaching 80 with extraordinarily stressful jobs are naturally likely to have strokes? NO! Then God did it.
I'm still waiting for Robertson bashers to provide proof that cities built near the Caribbean are naturally susceptable to be affected by Caribbean weather.

Yes, the 700 club is an example of Christianity at its worst...
and Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and almost 100% of the televangelists are about as far from being Christ-like as is possible. They are an embarassment and disgusting, to be pittied and laughed at.
But...

is not much different than what Robertson himself says. I disagree. Should he become ill, I would pray that GOD help heal him, just as I did for Gene Scott, another charlatan and snake-oil salesman.

Creation / Evolution Only
I don't see this as strongly related to the creation vs. evolution debate. This is politics masked as religion. Tangentially related, but only tangentially. And the discussion is not related to EvC.

Jar, you are a better man than me.
Seriously, you're right, I really shouldn't get so upset as to wish illness upon anyone. It just takes me down to their level.
    Thanks for the reminder..
    Cheers

jar, I don't agree but I respect your right to an opinion and respect your belief in prayer, etc... I however see Pat, Jerry, Oral, holding fast. They all have remained faithful to their wives. All are running the race to win the prize. All three have universities and are passing the torch to a younger generation.
P.S. If mini dika and others were pleased with Pat, then I would be concerned that Pat was of the world and not of Christ.

Well, sure, who would wish ill on any man? But the irony would still be there.

They're passing nothing. They're bilking their followers to line their own pockets. Did you know that Pat Robertson used airplanes purchased from donations from his viewers - donations solicited in order to use these airplanes to provide emergency medical supplies and treatments to Rwandans - to ferry equipment to and from his diamond mines across Africa? The airplanes never flew their mission of mercy.
Virginia's justice department recommended that charges of fraud be brought against him, but those charges never were brought against Robertson, because he had donated thousands of dollars to the re-election fund of that state's chief prosecutor.
Robertson is a fraud and a cheat, and he uses his money to pervert the application of justice. Does that sound like a man "of Christ" to you? Of course Robertson is a man of the world. He represents the worst kind of iniquity and dishonesty that Christ preached against.

Wow..... you know Crash I thought Pat was kind of a kook and a charlatan, but that is REALLY bad. I had no idea he was THAT bad. You've really opened my eyes here, I now view these people in a totally different light. I think "evil moron" is actually the wrong term. Because he's definitely evil, but not a moron

    Pat Robertson denies getting hangnail
In a statement issued to the press this morning, Pat Robertson denied allegations that he had a hangnail. "The Lord Jesus protects me," he said, "and punishes those who do not believe. If you are sick or dead, it is because you did not believe in God enough. One need only look at the millions of dying people around the world to see that we live in troubled times, filled with debauchery and sin." When asked if he had ever gotten sick or, even felt any discomfort in his life, he replied, "No, that's what happens to sinners." He then sighed and addressed the reporters as if they were children who'd asked too many questions. "Look," he said, "through Jesus I have eternal life. You all out there, you'll be dead, dead, dead while I'm driving my rocket car to get the morning's issue of the Space Times. These rumors about this hangnail? It's the devil saying these things about me. My nails are in perfect condition. Look." He then showed off his expertly groomed fingernails and then, despite assurances from reporters that it wasn't necessary, took off his shoes, showed off his diamond-studded toenails, and insisted that photographers take pictures of them.

    "In Heaven, everything is fine."

Pats walkin the walk (makin a difference)
Crashfrog, Pats making a difference, its easy to scoff, but Operation Blessing is out there making a difference. Salvation Army, Pat Robertsons and other Christian organizations were a blessing after the hurricanes devastated New Orleans, the Tsunami Relief, etc...
