Well thanks for all the nominations (and yes Tony I read yours and appreciate knowing what "lurkers" think).
No problem. Glad I could help.
Truth is I've been considering speaking up about this for some time now. I see people here getting frustrated sometimes and feeling as though they're making no progress with those they're debating. I've noticed you say similar, yourself. So, since I was voting for you I thought I might as well throw that out there.
I don't remember who it was but I recall somebody on the forum pointing out that debates are more about the lurkers anyway. I think that's the best way to approach it. Rarely are you going to convince the person you're debating, but never let the frustration of an unreasonably steadfast opponent distract you from the fact that you have an audience.
I know I'm not one to give advice since I'm just a spectator but, for what it's worth, I think this is the best approach. My apologies to the poster that initially said this... I'd give you credit if I could remember who you were.
Anyway, I'm derailing Mike's thread here (sorry Mike ). I just wanted to clarify that. A couple of times you've expressed the thought of leaving, and I for one want you to stay. As you can see by the votes, you've had more of an impact than you thought.

JUST STATE WHO YOU VOTE FOR.
Hey Mike.
Maybe you should require that, in order to be official, all votes actually state their nomination in the subtitle. They could still make whatever comments, about whomever, they wish in their post, but their actual vote would be clearly indicated.
I realize that many have already done this but, if you make it a requirement, it will clarify all the votes for you, and give you an easy tallying system at the same time. Just a thought.

This really means a lot to me, as I have put you through the wringer more than once.
Thanks, mike.

Actually that may make your advice more valuable. Those in the thick of things tend to lose perspective.
Your suggestion/reminder is valuable to more than just me in this case.
Note: Okay Mike, I'll stop derailing now. Just to make this on topic I will make my choice more clear. I do nominate RAZD. No doubt about it.

Thanks to both you and RAZD. However, I have been pretty scarce in 2005, and will be really scarce if not totally absent next year. I appreciate those of you who are in here all the time debating (wish more of my colleagues would join in)... I cannot cast a vote. There are just too many excellent posters for me to choose just one.

Gotta go with RAZD
I was tempted to agree with Mammuthus, bowing out with the observations that I've only been here a few months, and that there are just too many good posters. As I noted above, a strong case can be made for every nomination in this thread.
But the quality and quantity of RAZD's posts stand out. I agree with him often; when I don't, I can understand and respect his position.
RAZD supports his positions more thoroughly than most, providing not only vigorous thought but a wealth of citations and links as well. In some threads, his heavy lifting in rebutting drive-through obscurantists left me in awe of his energy, esp. after I saw he has a few miles on his odometer
Holmes and RAZD were a coin toss apart: everything I've said of RAZD, I could say of Holmes, but Holmes helped me to decide with his own vote.
Congratulations to everyone, Admins strongly included. EvC is a remarkable forum.

My choice is RAZD
There are several posters here with fine qualities, but my choice is RAZD.
His posts are informed and informative.
The thing most remarkable about him is the respect he shows to those who believe other than he.

Arachnophilia!
. . . so much information, very precise and helpful.
I'm glad to see you take account of the lurkers!
cheers

Ah! I should have known. Well, for whatever it means coming from a mere spectator, I agree. Focus on how the debate reads to the audience, and if you convince your opponent in the process consider it a bonus.
Thanks for the clarification, schraf.

You may have a point. As far as debate goes I'm purely a lurker. But, since I'm also a member, I suppose I have the advantage of being able to give my "lurker's perspective" on debate.

Happy to help. But I'm just the relayer. Credit goes to schraf.
I know I'm still continuing off topic. My apologies... I tend to feel like I'm being rude if I don't reply. So how about this... To the above mentioned tendency to lose perspective, Holmes' ability to generally maintain his perspective despite being well and truly "in the thick of things" is one of the main reasons for my nomination.
Does that make this post on topic?

Re: Updated Standings list
Well, one person not on the list who should be there is Modulous. He's got it all--insightful posts, often providing interesting factual information, seems good at understanding multiple perspectives, writes concisely, and gives off a calm feel.
Mod should be up there. My vote goes to Modulous.
I won't even attempt to comment on all the other great posters we have here, just to say... thanks all for helping further my own thinking! I'm looking forward to what lies ahead in 2006.
Ben
