Hello Lindey,
I'll capitalize your name even if you don't. It's just the right thing to do, you know?

I am not a biblical scholar, but I know that the translators of the NIV referred directly from the best available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts
Every translation makes this claim my dear.
GOD is the author of all good:
And all evil, if you equate God and the LORD (AKA Jehovah). This equation creates most of the difficulties in theology, and most of the animosity which fundamentalists generate in unbelievers.
Still, HE uses even evil circumstances (like disaster and death and war)and the works of Satan for HIS complex good.
I hope you don't believe this exempts him from responsibility for his role in things. And if he is using works of Satan, then Satan is his tool. And who created this Satan in the first place?
If one insists that the Lord is God, then this is a serious philosophical problem and one which may result in deadly conflict with unbelievers. On the other hand, if the Lord (a king) is understood to be
a god instead of
the god, then the actions of the Lord become understandable in the politico-religious expediencies of human existence, while the role of the God, as creator of the universe and sustainer of life, remains as ever: ultimately aloof, superior and non-judgemental.
See the difference?
When you die, do you know where you will be going?
Probably up in smoke, as is the custom in my family.
