The are some intelligent conservatives. And the more extreme liberals mostly don't look all that intelligent to me.
IMO the most intelligent tend to be pragmatic centrists, taking the liberal position on some matters and the conservative position on others.
The trouble in America today, is that the republican party has gone so whacko extreme right, that by comparison even the pragmatic centrists begin to look as if they are liberals.
