hey tal, glad to see you're alright. i was moderately concerned fro a while.
anyways. i'm not really interested, personally, but i do read a few blogs now and then. i'm sure it would be easy for your friend to contact one of the so very many liberal blogs on the internet -- i've seen a few posts go back and forth between liberal and conservative blogs. rebutals, replies, etc.
out of curiosity, as our local fervent neo-con, would you agree that this has not been a good year for bush and co, and that there are some major problems going on? i mean, even anne coulter has started speaking out against karl rove.

He's not interested in an "intelligent liberal"; he's looking for a punching bag to make him appear smarter.

After all the traffic you guys have sent my way the least I could to is drop in to say hi. I must admit that presently the only post I have read on this site is the one Tal posted about my request. Without knowing much about this forum, I am a little surprised to see the interest it has generated. Now I would like to address a few issues here.
If all I wanted was a punching bag I would merely hang out in forums like this one and post personal attacks about someone I don’t know. My intent is quite opposite of this. I want to develop an online friendship with someone who will share a blog site with me as an equal partner. We would post points and counterpoints about current events with the intent of showing each other (and hopefully our readers) a different perspective. Since I consider myself a conservative I would naturally be looking for someone who considers themselves a liberal and can adequately articulate their position.
At the time of this writing only two of you have had the fortitude to drop me a line at my place. Chet, as one of them, has engaged in an extended conversation but seems more intent on convincing me that I want something other than what I asked for. Meanwhile, he has not produced any meaningful insight on the liberal perspective. I have not seen much intelligence here either. I know that there is at least one intelligent liberal. I went to war with one and we are dear friends. Sadly he has moved away and we can no longer hold the discussions we once had. I am hoping that we can prove that he is not unique.

Nice of you to drop by
I have not seen much intelligence here either. I know that there is at least one intelligent liberal.
I don't understand how, with this constant dripping condecension explicit in almost every one of your comments, and now your posts here, you expect us to believe you're after anything but a punching bag. Since you've pretty much implicitly defined "intelligent" as "not holding liberal positions", as many posters both here and at your blog (liberal and conservative) seemed to pick up on, you're searching for something that you're pretty clearly trying very hard not to find.
Chet, as one of them, has engaged in an extended conversation but seems more intent on convincing me that I want something other than what I asked for.
Oh, no. You misunderstand. You're being very explicit that you're looking for nothing more than a punching bag. There's no need to "convince" you; I'm just making it apparent to everybody else.
Now, if you're really interested in intelligent, forthright debate with liberals, you'll hang around and post in the coffeehouse. Maybe you'll discover how the liberal "infiltration" of academia isn't just a product of some university echo chamber, but rather a reflection of the fact that liberal ideas are just plain smarter. There's been smarter conservatives than you around here, but none of them could defend their ideas. Maybe you'll be the first?
Or maybe my confidence in my own ideas and abilities is the excuse you need to run from the debate before it's even begun. Let me tell you up front. I'm convincable, and I'll even tell you what evidence you'll need to present to do so. I'm not some partisan ideologue; I've had my mind changed in the past. If you can't convince me, it's not because my mind is closed; it's because your ideas are impotent.

If you want to talk to somebody who is neither liberal nor conservative (it depends on the issue), I'll talk to you. What do you want to talk about?
Evolution?
The war in Iraq?
The definition of "romance"?
The definition of "species"?
Polyploidy life forms?
Calvinism?
The Holy Roman Catholic And Apostolic Church?
Sprung rhythm?
You can talk about it here. Go ahead.

With our without my condescension, your powers of observation are far from telepathic. I’m baffled by your claim that you know better than I do what I am asking for. Keep telling yourself that, eventually some may believe it; that doesn’t make it true. Therein lies the greatest flaw with liberalism, they do not need facts; they only need to get enough people to say it enough times for people to start believing it.
Along with that observation, my perception of the liberalization of academia is much different than yours. It has nothing to do with liberals being smarter but rather as a location where liberals can hide from reality with their unproven or disproven ideas. I would love to live in a true socialistic society. However, as one observant enough to see the world as it really is, and smart enough to analyze consequences, it is obvious that socialism does not work due to human nature. Conservatives and capitalists are the ones with the successful track records. They are the ones who can move beyond ideas and DO IT.

Someone said this:
quote:
There is a problem with debating your friend, he's a moron.
Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary, © 2002 Merriam-Webster, Inc. says:
quote:
mo·ron
Function: noun
: a mentally retarded person who has a potential mental age of between 8 and 12 years and is capable of doing routine work under supervision
Rather than parroting to you what you should think, I provide the facts and let you decide.

I see nothing you should be sorry about.
That was just my way of saying yes and making an underhanded reference to liberal tactics and reference my previous post.

Yes, I understand, but I feel like we've gotten off on the wrong foot, and I also feel like you would be great for this forum.
You can introduce any subject you want in the "coffee house" forum, or you can talk about the main subject if you like.
Here we will have the kind of discussions you want. And there are some smart cookies here whom I'm sure you would like to talk to (I'm not one of them).
Just trying to welcome you in.

Re: I see nothing you should be sorry about.
Looks like the search isn't going so well. I think you can find one, Frances, but it may be difficult. There is a guy that hangs out on the Townsquare at ACCboards (sports site) and used to hang out at the ZZL on InsideCarolina that goes by the moniker don bosco that might work.
He loves to post, teaches college and is reasonably intelligent.
