I was watching the discovery channel today "the top 10 unexplained mysteries". Ghosts and faith healing were in the middle, aliens and alien abductions were in the top 3, and finally the after life was number 1.
Watching the stories of the people who actually DID die (scientifically and empirically speaking) and then came back into consciousness really got me intrigued. Apparently 13 million people in the United States (I don't know the time frame this is in) have had these experiences.
Most of the time what they say is they feel their conscience (or awareness I should say) leave their body and suddenly they're saturated with energy, and boundless, like light.
I don't want to give too much away because I want you to explore this site. Which was a link from here.
I am no christian. I firmly believe in evolution and natural origins but I now think I am missing something then just materialism....
Check it out.

It is amazing what the brain will do as it believes it is dying. Scientists were able to make a test subject have the same tunnel of light episode by stimulating the brain. As the brain lost vision it reduced to tunnel vision and amplified what light it could get in, end result was a description identical to near death experiences but without the actual death needing to occur.
The other thing that is interesting is that our brain will make us see and feel what ever we have told it should happen at time of death. For this reason you have Christians meeting God, Muslims meeting Allah, Hindus seeing Kali and every other belief as well. The near death experiences start similar but differ when it comes to what it proves to each individual. Each religious person who experiences it ends up believing they were right.

What I find interesting though is that everytime they meet God, Allah, or Kali, they see the same thing, a being made of light and pure energy.
Granted there is some scientific reason for these things happening. However, regardless of the physiological processes I think there is something more to it.

Alright I have heard this gem often enough in my life that I am now going to demand an explanation. What the hell is pure energy?

Changed topic title
Changed it from "Very Interesting Subject - Take A Look" (which was badly lacking in information) to "Discovery Channel - the top 10 unexplained mysteries".
People, put a good title on your new topics. I might help topic drift control (I can dream) and it saves having to chase and change the title.

no all documentaries are scientifically sound, accurate, or even trying to tell you the truth. for instance:
faith healing
is a known practice of trickery, combined with the power of the placebo effect. hell, i'll even teach you how to do it.
aliens
may exist, but
alien abductions
are heavily associated with sleep paralysis. scientific study has even shown that you can produce mental images of the standard grey alien in lab conditions, using a rather weak electromagnetic field (equivalent to that of about a hair dryer)
finally the after life was number 1
people get all the standard out of body experience, tunnel vision, hallucinations, memory flashes, etc, everything associated with nde's in centrifuges. it's a reproducable result. but these people don't die, they just lose circulation to the brain.

I am one of those unfortunates that actually have sleep paralysis on a semi-regular basis. In fact, I am so used to it now that ,everytime it happens, instead of feeling the immense fear that most people feel when paralized, I would be feeling, "fuck, not again!"

I don't really know. Now that I'm so used to it, it goes by pretty quickly and I don't really pay attention to it. All I know is that I can't move even though I want to move.
I once read a book that talks about sleep paralysis. The author says that through execise you can actually perform an out-of-body experience. Supposedly, you just want to fool your mind that your body is up and walking around even though you are still lying there paralyzed. I've never tried it, though.

Here are NDE's being scientifically validated.
Here is the NDE or out-of-body experience being induced.

Sleep Paralysis
I've had this before as well. I made a thread about it but I have no clue where it is now. When I had it I was a christian and I saw a dark image come up to me (funnily enough this was at 3:16 AM) and whisper something in my ear. I have no clue what it said because I didn't feel I should listen in case it was an evil 'thing' lying to me trying to screw up my life. Nevertheless it was terrifying. I also felt like my temples were going to explode! Lam, do you ever feel pressure in your temples when this happens? Maybe not anymore but at the start?

Well, I guess we all experience it a little differently. I never felt any pressure on the temples. However, I saw the dark figure a few first times. Scared the living hell out of me. Back then, I had never heard of sleep paralysis. After the second time, I think, I saw a program on the discovery channel and I was like "ah ha!"

A bog deal?
I didn't know that this was any kind of big deal. I sleep pretty fitfully (it's the age you know ). So I wake and drop off a lot. I'm used to waking paralyzed a few times a month. It doesn't last long but I'm away of being somewhere between "anchored down" and disconnected from my body.
I seem to have two basic kinds of dreams. Fuzzy one of impossible circumstances (scary or otherwise) and rather detailed mundane simple ones. Sometimes those are a continuation of whatever I was doing the night before and I have to think a bit to clear out which was a real memory and which dream. The ration is proably about 4 to 1 ( unreal to "real" ).
The most deeply affecting dream I ever had was one that was of the mundane, 'real' type though.

and there is some reason you think we'll allow a statement like that and just let you walk away?
