i suggest a new potm thread for comic relief. people are way too uptight around here lately. occasionally it's nice to watch people let their guard down. i would like to suggest a centralized location to record these moments since they don't tend to qualify under potm's common denominator of "profound".
macbeth had his gatekeeper; now evc has this thread.

probably not wise
I'm not convinced this is a good idea. The person who is nominated because he/she is "way too uptight around here lately" might not find it very amusing. And then this joke, at a members expense, is listed on Google and other search engines.
Okay, call me a killjoy. Maybe another admin will think differently.

Ohhhh Kayyyy...why? we already have our Humor strikes back thread. If you STILL think us too uptight, e-mail me and we can humor each other! I don't think the humor P.O.T.M. is a good idea, though. We are a specialized forum with a Coffee House to unwind in.
Edit: I am probably too uptight, but maybe another Admin will see it in a lighter way!

Re: probably not wise
that's not what i meant at all.
i mean that people nominate people when they break down and say something funny.

I'd like to ask brenna to clarify this. I read it as her wanting it to be for intentionally funny posts - those one-liners that Moose periodically gets all pissy about. I'd be all in favour of this. I agree with nwr about not wanting one for ridiculing arguments that people have put forward or showing up mistakes they have made.
yes mangy, that's exactly what i meant. sometimes these are absolute gems.

Post your first nomination here
Post your first nomination as a message in this thread. That will give us a better idea on what you intend.

nom number the first
well. since i know where it is and i don't have to go hunting for anything... at risk of seeming self-important, i think this is a reasonable representation. there are probably much better ones. sometimes threads just go funny places.
my little joke from the gilgamesh thread.

Sorry to be fussy, but I don't like self-nominations.

*stabs eye*
it's supposed to be comic relief and you're making it all way too serious.

Thread moved here from the Proposed New Topics forum.
I am setting this up in "Practice Makes Perfect" to see what people can do with it. That will allow experimentation, coming up with suggested rules, etc.
In this thread you should post example nominations, with reasons for the nomination. Give the person, forum, thread, message as in a normal POTM.
We can consider what should be the criteria after we have some examples. Or we can consider it a failed experiment if it goes badly.

I got one from jar, but how do you do that linking. My Peek button does not work.

nods to Iblis and Parasomnium
Two nominations I would make from last night:
Iblis: "("No eggs in this one," said ZZaxx, slapping her hairy thigh) and so now 50 million years later, we have a rule about that stuff but it's way too late, we're chimps, wages of sin and all that."
and definitely the gem of a list from Parasomnium, including: "4. Does ancestry run in your family?"

Re: nom number the first
Thank you, brennakimi. I'd nominate your Gilgamesh jest, but Dread AdminNWR probably doesn't like tit-for-tat (or vice versa) either.
I think we are all the butts of his humor. He stands robed and grim in the shadows, laughing: Ha. Ha. Ha.

Just because as we dig a little deeper, our notions change does not mean the discoveries are not useful.--randman

links
robinrohan writes:
but how do you do that linking.
The important link is to the message. You can list the forum and thread without using links if you want.
Here is how I did one in the POTM thread.
I first browsed to the article. Then I looked at the url I was using (check what the browser says). The url contained, among other stuff, "f=32" and "t=23". Those give the forum and thread number. I found the message number (187) by just looking. I then used
[forum=32]
[thread=-32,23]
[msg=-32,-23,-187]
Note that the "-" in front of one of those numbers suppresses the particular information (forum title, thread title or message title).
The alternative is to browse to the particular message, use your mouse to select the url your browser is using. Then with cut and past you can insert that into a "url" definition
[url=htt....(rest of url)]words you want displayed[/url]

What shall it profit a nation if it gain the whole world, yet lose its own soul.
