Re: Another Firefox user...
I'm pretty sure my Java is up to date, but I am running it on OSX so maybe that is where the difference lies.

mmmmm... OSX...
I miss OSX
I havn't been able to use it for a couple of years now. I'm too poor to get a new mac. But man, that OS is the best thing ever. Sooo much better than this POS XP.

I should have mentioned in the OP (I've edited it now) that the chat room will only work with Java enabled browsers. The chat room runs using a Java applet.

Re: Another Firefox user...
Try safari, explorer and firefox? I find lots of sites where safari works but explorer doesn't and vice versa

Re: Another Firefox user...
Yes, I have no problem using the chat facility, the problem is that the chat applet wants me to use it when I am trying to do something else on a different tab. So if I am trying to write a replying post on the message board it tries to put it into the send field of the applet, for example.

WK

Re: Another Firefox user...
Does that happen when you float the applet?
Also, which version of Firefox are you using?

Re: Another Firefox user...
No, when I float the applet it doesn't happen.
I'm not sure what my version is, I'm going to install 1.0.6 and see if it makes a difference.
*ABE* Still happens with 1.0.6, I haven't tried with the 1.5 beta though.

Re: Another Firefox user...
What mac are you running?
Currently I'm using a custom built PC frankenbox. It's fast, and does everything I need.
Last Mac I owend was a first gen. G4 Laptop. 400Mhz It was a great little comp. But id gave up the ghost a month ago
I have a dual 800Mhz G4 tower also, but I gave that to my parents when I moved away from home. It currently spends much of it's time sending email and playing solitair
Like I said, I'm a macaddict at heart, I just don't have the cash to shell out for a new one.

underused
I am surprised that very few members use the chat room.
I cannot believe that so many of you are too shy to use it.

Re: underused
I am surprised that very few members use the chat room.
I think it is going to turn out that the chat room is not very useful. This might change, if special topic discussions were organized.
For example, if I want to say something to you (Brian) in the chat room, that would require that we both be connected to the chat room at the same time. Given that there is a time difference (Scotland vs Chicago area) that isn't too likely.
At present, I am connecting to the chat room in the evening (from home), and keeping a window open which I occasionally watch. But I do have other things to do, so I cannot be glued to the chat screen.
During daytime hours, I am normally at work. While I could connect to chat (to see if Brian is on line, for example), I really cannot stay connected. I have other things to do, and leaving myself connected would be misleading since I would not be watching most of the chat.
That's why I would find a personal messaging system more useful. I could direct a message to Brian (to use the same example), and it would stay in a message queue until he was online to read it. However, I acknowledge that setting up a messaging system is more difficult than setting up a chat facility.
