That's an honest answer(from you), atleast.
PS. Just incase Ned's ignoring my posts aswell, he's a big dozy nit wit. (joke!) This message has been edited by mike the wiz, 03-31-2005 11:33 AM

Even when I didn't debate with him, I learned a great deal about the science topics he took on, if only because it made me look up lots of things. And when I did debate with him, it sharpened my English pen. Too much perhaps, but still.
My vote: yes-F. {edited to add colour} This message has been edited by Parasomnium, 31-Mar-2005 07:46 PM

I vote (F) for Buzz.
He is not some fly by night, flash in the pan troll. He has history here.

I also vote this. But is Percy listening?

I have been here long enough to have seen em come and go. I become use to the different personalities that post here. Some go on they're own accord like Rei did. Some drop off and never return, some come back for a post or two and are gone again. But through it all Buzz has remained. And now perminate banishment? I wish perhaps the admins would at least do a temporary suspension. That has been granted to much more trollish posters. I think Buzz deserves better. Just my opinion.

I think my stand was made pretty plainly in the previous post. However, to remove doubt, I also vote Yes-F.
Oh, and by the way, Phatboy? I am a conservative who typically votes Republican, an atheist, a sometime scientist, and diametrically opposed politically and intellectually to the current neo-Con agenda - which has absolutely ZERO to do with what the Republican Party was founded upon and for which it stood (at least up to Reagan). So there's at least one conservative who supports Buz, even tho' I disagree with approx 99.999999% of everything he ever wrote. It's dangerous to stereotype.

Thanks, O Hairy One. I'll be in and out - I'm mostly lurking recently. Press of work, etc.
Concur with your points (what a surprise, eh?)

For all the problems of operating a "Boot Camp" topic, that forum was set up to be a middle ground between full membership and suspension.
Full membership for Buz clearly had some severe problems, both of his own making, and of the makings of others. As part of the "Boot Camp" process, I think we need to significantly restrict the participation of the other members. Kind of like something between a "Great Debate" and a regular topic. Members that are found to be unsuitable to participate in the "Boot Camp" will be restricted OUT of that forum. Of course, in the past the "Boot Camp" was judged to be a failed concept. I believe that most (but not all) of the "campers" were ultimately given perminent suspensions. Adminnemooseus

Buzz has a private feud with Percy and has indicated that he does not want to come back. The administrators, who IMHO are unusually fair and balanced, have left open the possibility of Buzz to return at a later time. (add by edit) Buzz even sent us an e-mail in which he shows himself to be a class act. He prayed for each and every one of you and has no feud with anyone now.
We can not simply give Buzz back his full privileges again, unless he can talk to us rationally (not begging) but explaining that he needs to follow forum guidelines. I know that bootcamp is not perfect. We are refining the method of restraint on hyper members. The format of this forum has been set up with moderation procedures in place. Buzz disagrees with this authority. He will not change. He needs a time-out. We expect no less from any member...administrators included.Buzz will not become a martyr nor will he be made a permanent example. I want everyone to know that we appreciate the support that you have given to a member whom few agreed with. It shows me that EvC has some pretty classy people among its membership! you need a netscape, aol or aim nickname to participate. new folks welcome (as in how could anyone complain?) and things are slow right now on the EvC front so there is a lot of political fill and banter. buz would be welcome too. enjoy. we are limited in our ability to understand by our ability to understand RebelAAmerican.Zen[Deist

wiz writes: Percy always listens to you, Mike! I know that you also are a controversial kinda guy! I also have been around the net and have seen the style and substance of many other disscussion forums. There are few that have an interaction such as we have at EvC. I also vote this. But is Percy listening? You know that I have always personally liked you, Mike! You don't need to prove anything to me. Buzz is not being picked on. He feels that he has something to prove to Percy. Perhaps so. Perhaps that is between them. The issue is this: Is this a moderated forum or is this an unrestricted free for all where anyone can post anything? Buzz is no troll. He is intelligent. He is also a grumpy old man on a mission, and gosh darn it if anyone can shut him up! Percy started this as a science forum. He has allowed Believers quite an unrestricted voice, and I DO know! If Buzz insists on a soapbox, perhaps he should start his own forum. What impresses me is how Buzz opponents even defend his right to blather on. (I know...I don't give I.D. enough respect! Forgive me, Wiz! Don't worry about Buzz. He knows we all love him (or ignore him, like Ned! ) He has told Percy that he does not want to come back. We will therefore not make a bigger deal out of this than it already is.
Wiz writes: Hey Phatz, it's just the permanent suspension that confuses me. If he was not let back in for six months, then I think that would be a harsh and severe penalty. Or even a year, which is quite a long time. But permanent? *huh* I suppose this strikes me as the equivalent of getting life in prison for stealing a potato. We are not putting him in prison. We are kicking him out of the restaurant for being too noisy. Besides...I have seen many who have been sentenced to long terms only to be reconsidered at later dates and times. Believe it when I say that Buzz has good chances to be reinstated around here. Just not entirely on his terms! This message has been edited by Phatboy, 03-31-2005 05:56 PM

It's okay Phatboy, I don't personally feel that I am owed an explanation, or that any admins need justify themselves to me. I think the admins here are very good. Infact I like Minnemoose and Percy a lot, and have always thought of them as kind of benevolent and long-suffering and fair adminites.
We know that Moose is the more cranky OT boss and that Percy is more the NT boss that keeps him in his cage, so it took me by surprise that Percy done this as usually we must escape the full wrath of Moose let loose on mike the goose.

I think that permanently suspending Buzsaw is going a bit too far. Give him another chance to start working within the rules.

Phatboy writes: What impresses me is how Buzz opponents even defend his right to blather on. That reminds me of something that is usually attributed to Franois-Marie Arouet, a.k.a. Voltaire, but which was really written by Evelyn Beatrice Hall, who sort of summed up Voltaire's attitude:
quote: (See? There's something else I had to look up. On EvC, you learn something new everyday.) Buz, if you ever need a megaphone to shout your silly thoughts through, you know where to look, don't you? Take care, old crumpet.
