Flat earth
I did a search in google for "how can we test if the earth is round" (as suggested by AdminChuck) and the first link provides several answers to Txomin's question.
I call shenanigans.

Yep, I think he needs someone to do hi homework.
preferably someone with a degree in science so he knows it is good.

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong

I am not so sure.
Just one link (at the top of google) provides more than enough information to answer a "Think high-school education or less" homework question.
I am wondering if he is a Flat-Earther or someone with a similar belief - but thinks that if we knew it would prevent him starting a new thread...or something like that.

Hi Panda,
I am wondering if he is a Flat-Earther or someone with a similar belief
For some reason I have a kind of perverse admiration for people who stick to their guns regardless of the reality that surrounds them.
With all of the different stripes of crazy out there, flat earthers are amongst the most harmless.

I could agree with you, but then we would both be wrong

Hi Panda,
I did a google on "flat earth test" and also got many hits with examples, however the top ones were from flat earthers showing how they "refuted" the tests and explained how the earth could be flat -- fascinating reading.

Dr A's Geology Offer
I just wanted to express my interest in Dr Adequate's offer to author an intro to geology.
I have no doubt he would do cogent work, and the experiment with crowd-sourced improvements would be fascinating.

Re: Dr A's Geology Offer
Seconded. I would however caution something. Dr. Adequate says he will, when informed that something he posted is wrong, not debate the subject and just change the original post. Now, what if a creationist comes in, starts spouting his nonsense and demands that the original post will be altered. Surely we don't want that happening? I understand that debate is not the point of the thread, so perhaps we should only allow genuine critique in the thread, lest it become a mess very quickly?

Re: Dr A's Geology Offer -- suggested format & review process
Hi Huntard et al
I understand that debate is not the point of the thread, ...
So it should not be in a debate forum.
Can I suggest the Columnist forum?
This would allow a series of article\posts without debates OR critiques.
What I suggest instead is a peer review process, where Dr Adequate PM's his proposed post to the professional peer\mentors that agree to help: they read it and make corrections and the corrected material is posted.
This is how I worked on of my columns (with Ben! -- where is Ben these days?)
Admin can set the column to only have access by Dr. Adequate (and admin of course), so it should not garner any clutter.
Enjoy

Re: Dr A's Geology Offer
I would also like to see Dr A get a chance.
Now, what if a creationist comes in, starts spouting his nonsense and demands that the original post will be altered.
I would imagine it wouldn't take long for a Dawn B or Robert B type to become a problem. I was thinking that maybe a peanut gallery topic can be started at the same time for those who would like to offer their take on what has been said? If they did post nonsense in Dr A's thread then I feel it would be best to hide their post and only respond to them through the peanut gallery topic where their input would be open for debate.

How does "something has a beginning" mean that "something was designed"?

Let Dr Adequate Rock
Most of us (not all) are armchair evolutionists without relevant professional qualifications--yet we all expound repeatedly, at length, on this complex subject.
I see no reason why Dr A shouldn't enjoy the same privilege with respect to geology. He has already stated his willingness to listen to and incorporate evidence/source-based critiques, whether from professionals or fellow amateurs. If he posts errors, we will all learn from the process; treating the matter as a peer-reviewed or pre-screened publication will simply slow things down and deny us all an opportunity for crowd-sourced, participatory learning.
After all, he proposes to write a series of posts on introductory geology for which he takes responsibility, not to publish a book with the imprimatur of EvC. A standard disclaimer should satisfy any doubts in that regard.
If other members wish to register dissatisfaction with the result, give them a peanut gallery. I understand those are popular.

Discussion of the Big Bang is part of the theory of origins. It is also part of the theory of evolution. You cannot discuss animals without discussing their habitat and where they came from.
Abiogenesis is also part of the theory of evolution, it is the very start. Abiogenesis may be the portion of the evolutionary theory which is truly falsifiable.
Not an auspicious beginning: a handful of wrong in every bite.

I don't see why peter1985's "Moral compass" topic can't be promoted.

Possessor's eye evolution topic
Why not simply direct Possessor to post in the already existing 'Can sense organs like the eye really evolve?' thread? Surely we don't need 2 parallel threads on eye evolution?

Re: Possessor's eye evolution topic
And why is it necessary for admins to be cryptic on the topic? AdminPD said that there wasn't enough evidence in the OP and so Possessor diligently expanded his case for the human eye not having arose from a freckle, but what AdminPD meant was that there's no evidence that evolutionists believe that human eyes come from freckles.
I don't understand why admin instructions have to be the fucking Riddle of the Sphynx, especially given than its a forum rule that we have to follow admin instructions.
