Heh. Old problem just resurfaced. I posted a message on that thread again. Browser is hung up, but it seems to just be having trouble loading the page with the message on it. The message itself is posted. I've opened a new window, and I can go to the thread and read the message I just posted. But the All Topics page is not indicating that my message is there (and the thread isn't bumped).

yes. It is not automatically updating the index and must be rebuilt manually after each message.

Interesting little tear in the Matrix here. My message is the last but even on refresh the one before it, Asgaras closing post, is the one that is listed at last in the 'All Topics' listing.

your post is the last to appear in my All Topics listing.
Of course, why that happened, is becuase apparently, there's a separate close function, and you got lucky. You posted inbetween her message and when she actually closed it. [bgcolor=green]paragraph-1 paragraph2[/bgcolor] result:
paragraph-1
Notice that only the first paragraph has the specified color. paragraph2 If I omit the final "[/bgcolor]", then I get an error on preview. However, there is no error for having "[/bgcolor]" at the end of the second paragraph, even though it is only applied to the first paragraph. If bgcolor is only supposed to apply to one paragraph, then both the documentation and error message ought to reflect that. My suspicion is that it is intended to apply to the complete range embedded between "[bgcolor=green]" and "[/bgcolor]", but the current implementation is broken. Incidently, I tried to make the subtitle:[bgcolor] is broken (use "peek" to see how I formatted that). I found that wnenever I previewed, the formatting was stripped from the subtitle line as seen in the subsequent edit screen. Resubmitting for preview then resulted in an error flagged on that subtitle line. I could have kept restoring the subtitle line after each preview, but I decided that it was risky - it might break something else in the forum software. Works in IE, not in Firefox.

Interesting comment. I'm using firefox. I just fired up opera, to test an alternative. Only the first line is green in opera. Compassionate conservatism - bringing you a kinder, gentler torture chamber

That might explain it - I'm at work on an olde IE (5.5) install. It looks to be a CSS issue.

I just had a fiddle adding a background colour with CSS to a paragraph with my HTML editor. It works fine when viewed with firefox and opera. However pasting that same code into an evc reply message and previewing it came up with the same problem as nwr.
Does the CSS just need updating on this site to incorporate both modern & 'olde' browsers? (just curious) Kakariki

It looks to be a problem with the way firefox handles span tags. Firefox might be doing it the right way, and ie is being too generous - but I don't know which way round it is.
The only solutions I can find are:
I'm sure there must be a better solution though. Edited by Modulous, : examples Edited by Modulous, : corrected minor error
