FYI, I've shamelessly stolen EvC technology
Part of my job is to work on Line of Business (LOB) apps for the company. I just added in a "Do Nothing Button" button to every app.

Question. How did this new and innovative technology come about? How did Percy come up with such an awesome invention?

Re: FYI, I've shamelessly stolen EvC technology
Question. How did this new and innovative technology come about? How did Percy come up with such an awesome invention?

I used to have an iPhone and would browse this site on it. Whenever I'd scroll through a thread and arrive at the bottom, I would use the All Topics button to get back to the list. With the relatively small screen, and my normal sized thumb, I would occasionally hit the Contact Us button on accident. This caused the iPhone to open up the email application to draft a new email and then it would start downloading all my emails n'stuff and it was really annoying.

I posted a message here Message 231 to ask Percy to move the buttons apart so I wouldn't have to be annoyed anymore.

So then he created the Do Nothing Button to seperate them.

Why did you create a Do Nothing Button?

To do absolutely nothing.

But does it work? Does it, in fact, do absolutely nothing every time it is hit?

Percy is quite good at this programming stuff. Just look around to see how awesome he is. I keep testing the "Do Nothing Button" to make sure he hasn't slipped up somewhere and, sure enough, on this site, the "Do Nothing Button" does exactly that.

Can you claim the same competence and expertise?

Glad to know I'm not the only one who does this!

I pretend it's beta-testing.

I haven't accidentally clicked on the 'Contact Us' button since the 'Do Nothing Button' has been implemented, so it is actually doing something for me.

I do question if it technically even counts as a button when it is not something that you can "press". I mean, it should still be clickable like a real button is.

Except that if it clicked, it would be doing something!

If I flip a light switch and nothing happens, did the switch really do anything?

If the switch cannot be moved, then is it really a switch?

Do Nothing Button
Little do you know, the Do Nothing Button is an executive admin only portal into the bar/lounge where we do ... nothing. Whilst in there we are not in the forums creating fear and loathing among the populous.

It told you there's a problem.

Not if it's a Do Nothing Switch...

But if I cannot even move the switch, does it really count as a switch? Isn't it just a knob at that point?

It's really more of a Do Nothing Box, since it's not really an actual button that I can press.

But if there's no feedback, you don't know what, if anything, it's doing. It could be uploading your personal information to me.
