I can tell the difference between a button that moves in and out when I press it, and a drawing of a button that can't be pushed.

Re: FYI, I've shamelessly stolen EvC technology
Glad to know I'm not the only one who does this!
I pretend it's beta-testing.
And we have to keep testing. Percy is a programmer and you know how some of those savants can get. He may slip up some day, fall off the deep end, if we don't continually test his stuff. This way he stays
creative
and productive
like making a
Do Nothing Button

Doesn't quantum mechanics require that even a "do nothing" button must do something?

Nary a beta-tester when you need one.

Oh, That's good! A "Do Nothing Button" that not only doesn't but doesn't with suspect intellect.

A song........
One of you other Old Geezers help me out here.
There was a song on the radio in the late 1960's that my brain will now only return fragments of....perhaps:
"I heard about your quarrels, and how they always end
But I never heard of lovers who could be best friends."
It was one of those hippy freak bands that did country music, but I can't remember who. And Google seems powerless to help me. Can you folks?

The two of you do realize those were 50 years ago? If you remember these y'all are really really old.
We used to dance to those. God, I'm feeling old.

Mitochondrial haplotypes
I stumbled across a conceptual problem when caused me to abandon a reply to Faith, and was hoping someone with more genetics knowledge would be able to help.
How is it that people can be said to have a specific haplotype at any locus for a mitochondrial gene. You don't only inherit one mitochondrion from your mother, but several. These will presumably accumulate mutations as they go, causing the mitochondria within a single cell to diversify. I can understand a selective sweep homogenising the cell's mitochondria again, but does this happen often enough that there's never time for diversity to establish itself?
