Re: Double Standards - Faith
I think you misunderstand much of what happens.
If a poster maligns all Christians (as happens here quite often) that is an opinion. People are free to civily point out errors in that position but there is nothing that says any member should not say or believe that "all Christians are liars and eat their young".
When a Christian responds though by saying to that person, "You're a liar", that Christian has crossed the line and will be suspended.
Feel free to substitute any term for Christian in the paragraph above.

Re: Double Standards - Faith
Your best tactic in such a case is to show where the statement is incorrect. Attacking the poster though, calling them a liar as an example, does not advance the discussion and will result in sanctions.
There is no problem showing someone where they are wrong.
There is no doubt that this is a difficult task on the part of both the poster and the moderator. If, in response to such a post you said the message displayed ignorance of the facts or was bigotted in nature, that would be within the guidelines. If, on the other hand, you said the poster was a fool or was lying, that would be outside.

Re: Double Standards - Faith
Yes, that is the distinction I draw. I also agree that your reaction is reasonable. It may well seem like a personal attack. TO YOU!
But when you take the next step and commit a person attack it is no longer a matter of interpretaion or opinion.
