Throughout the history of , it has been tradition to let Brad post away. This despite the fact that the most common response to a Brads message is something like "Brad, I haven't a clue what you're talking about".
We have had one topic with one member who seems to interface with Brad particularly well. Don't offhand have the more specific information on said topic and member.
Might Brad be best served by confining him to the "Boot Camp"? That way we can keep his messages to more unified locations.
Brad, we love you, but... Do you need some special treatment at this forum?
Maybe you new to run a new topic through the "Proposed New Topics" process, and let it be subjected to the full standard review process?

I think [forum=-28] would be a good motivational tool for Brad.

I have no problem with Brad's posts. Most people, including myself, just ignore his posts unless at a glimpse they seem to make sense. I see no reason why he should be confined to BC. BC is a place for people with the potential to be able to debate in good faith but haven't really exploited such potential. Brad, on the other hand, has no potential to make any more sense than what we've seen. Once Brad is in BC, I really don't see how he will be able to get out of it, and the purpose of BC ain't for people to serve life terms.
Please reconsider. As I see it, Brad hasn't gotten any special treatment. Here is why. We throw people into BC because at some point or other they've refused to debate with people in good faith. They've refused to provide evidence or support for their arguments. In other words, they have at least upset somebody or refused to treat that person seriously. Now, how can we say that Brad does the same thing if nobody actually ever tried to engage with him in a debate of any kind? The worst that I have ever seen someone responding to Brad is something along the line of "huh...???" Can anyone at all point me to a post where someone demands evidence or logical support from Brad?
Brad hasn't gotten any special treatment, and if things continue the way they are he's never going to get any special treatment. He's not bothering anybody and I ask that we don't bother him.

I agree, Lam
Brad doesn't need "motivation". It is my uneducated opinion that he is incapable of being any different.
We seem to be manageing the way we are. I don't see any need for change.

I tend to tolerance in this case. If only because Brad is harmless, and if he is trying to post coherent arguments he needs more help than the Boot Camp can possibly give him.

I think I'd fourth or fifth suggesting leaving Brad alone. He's not a bad debator - just incomprehensible...

Brad to the Bone
Brad, unlike other prospective Boot Campers, doesn't seem to be acting in a deliberately obnoxious way. Okay, the fact that he's posted a dozen messages in the last twenty-four hours, not one of which is legible, doesn't speak well of his restraint. However, I've never heard Brad act in an insulting or harrassing manner.
Do we want lots more people like Brad at EvC? No more than we'd want to read King Lear if the Fool had the biggest role. But Brad doesn't deserve the same sort of censure that Salty did.
regards,
Esteban Hambre

The thing is it is pretty hard to be like Brad. Actually, it's almost impossible for a regular person to type up posts that look like Brad's. So, in this sense I don't think it will be a problem.

Re: Brad to the Bone
I don't think Brad should end up in Boot camp - his stuff makes no sense at all to me - but it seems clear to me that he is posting entirely in good faith.
One thing has always puzzled me - Brad is at university? How the hell is his stuff marked?

Brad McKerouac
I agree with the many above that Brad should not be involuntarily committed, since he seems to post in good faith. He has also produced some of the finest scientific Beat poetry I've seen - a recent example:
THINK more about current densities modified not by artifical man-made OVERVOLATGES in the lab but as you found INLIT by lightN.
Some pretty sweet wordplay.
On the other hand, [Brad if you're reading this], perhaps he will voluntarily partake in some bootcamp training to improve his communication (I think I read a post of his at one point stating he was trying to improve).
Brad must realize that >95% of his remarks go ignored - perhaps he will voluntarily commit himself to reduce that percentage...

I agree with the majority here. I don't think Brad is deliberately attempting to "obfuscate" (). He seems to be posting in good faith and generally isn't disruptive.
Periodically we DO have members that, if not understanding the majority of Brad's posts, at least seem to get something out of them. I think relegating Brad to Boot Camp would send newbies the wrong message about Brad AND about Boot Camp.
out out damn spot....

Welease Bwad
It would be sad to see an end to Brad's postings, and restriction to "boot camp" may encourage that.
The challenge of interpreting Brad's posts far transcends that of any crossword or puzzle I've seen! When you do make sense of even a sentence, it is a reward.
Brad is a bizarre asset to this forum. Long may he post!
Cheers.

You folk really have problems understanding Brad?
Actually, I really like Brad's posts. I have this feeling that if I squint real hard and hold my tongue just right and turn my head just so, that one day, maybe one day soon...
