There are several major problems with the whole concept.
First, the claim that even in 2012 some planet that can affect the Earth gravitionally (I hedge my bets because a small but still significant planitoid hitting the Earth would effect us) would have to be close enough to us right now for us to see it.
Look at Jupiter and Saturn. Both are easily visible with the naked eye and yet neither has a significant gravitaional effect on the Earth.
