Panic over. Rain dance turned into victory jig. When wickets started tumbling I made a hasty exit from work to catch the action in the pub. Just back home now. What a game! Fluctuating tense cricket. Even I think Broad looks lovely at the moment!

Straggler Oval-Tastic
I shall be at The Oval in sunny South London for day 3 of the fifth ashes test tomorrow.
Sun cream and sandwiches at the ready. Beers will be consumed. Comedy headgear will be worn. Runs will be scored.
England have it all to do after Aus batted for two days to make a score of 500.
Bring it on!!!!

Cricket...Nobody understands Cricket.
You gotta know what a crumpet is...
Honestly, I do have no idea about Cricket, but from what someone said earlier in the thread not getting the jargon makes sense. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to explain the rules and the language of baseball to individuals who did not understand it well. If I were to say someone after a play who had not watched baseball, "Wow, that was a sweet 6-4-2" they would have very little idea that I was discussing the fact that the ball was caught by the shortstop, thrown to the second basemen for out number one, then thrown to the first baseman for the second out, or better known as a 6-4-2 double play. However, with someone who knows baseball and its lingo, I would not have to explain the double play part, they would already understand it.
Plus, there are the signals being given from the management staff at all times, trying to decode those is tough even for someone who watches it a lot. These guys are talking simply through pre-planned hand gestures and tapping. Try to figure that out without the understanding of the game. Lol. On that note, is there something similar in Cricket to the hand signals used in baseball to tell a batter whether to bunt, swing, aim for a walk, crowd the plate, or any other option required at the time?

See? That's just a ridiculous kind of magnitude for a score.

Actually, nobody would get it because you've bollixed up the numbering system. I doubt you've ever seen a 6-4-2 DP. The first baseman is '3' not '2'. The catcher is '2'.

No. There are always two batsmen at the wicket all the time so they just walk up to each other and have a chat. Instructions are also sent out from the dressing room when drinks are taken.

You are correct, and I feel slightly dumb for making that mistake.
I knew something looked wrong in it and kept looking trying to figure it out, but I think my mind was far too much on the work I was supposed to be doing. Lol. My fault, I intended to say 6-4-3...correction made!

Looks like you're having a nice day in terms of weather, but batting is sloooooow.

It just isn't Cricket
So game 6 at Fenway. Sox and Cards to end the series in Beantown. What a great world series this has become, especially since Boston is up. So any baseball fans out there?
Can you believe the pitching on both sides? Gotta love that baseball.

Re: It just isn't Cricket
This is going down as one of the great series of all time. I am a huge baseball fan and a huge Red Sox fan.
Now Victorino and Stephen Drew are hitting. Things are looking good.
