Back in late march and early april when this happened, we had a long discussion about this at our local lgbt meeting. I still remember the outrage I felt.
Anyway, here is a link to some letters to editor from that local newspaper.
cliky clicky (try to say that really fast)
Here is one from a very moral leader who knows all about good and bad and will no doubt make fun of us from heaven while the rest of us burn in hell.
quote:
Church supports district’s stance on immoral conduct
Dear editor,
As pastor, board of deacons and members of Fairview Baptist Church, we wish to say we fully support our county superintendent of education Teresa McNeece, Itawamba County School Board members and school administrators in their stand on dress codes and immoral conduct.
Bro. Gene O’Brian
Pastor
Fairview Baptist Church
Here is one from someone who just doesn't understand why the rest of the country think they are bigots.
quote:
District’s decision in best interest of all students
Dear editor,
First of all I support the decision of the school board of Itawamba County School District to not host the prom at IAHS Their statement indicated that they made the decision which would be in the best interest of all students. That is, after all, their duty - to make decisions which will be in the best interest of all students in our county. Apparently it is common for parents to host proms, and I feel sure that parents who are interested in this will do the same for students at IAHS. I can't imagine that not having a prom hosted at IAHS will hurt the education of the students at this school. Their statement stands on its own merit, and it is not connected to my next two comments.
Second, I have been shocked by the hateful and sometimes vulgar comments that people from all over the United States have made about our county, our state, our school board and our superintendent over this issue. It seems a little strange that these people say that they are concerned over the rights and feelings of one individual but have no concern for the rights and feelings of the people they are making these shameful comments about. Our rights come with responsibility and that seems to have been forgotten. That makes me sad.
Last of all I would like to say that if we believe in God and the Bible, we have a pattern as to how to live our lives. It doesn't matter what our "opinion" is when God has already told us what is right and what is wrong in His word. In Proverbs 14:12 it says: There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death". If we want to know what God has said about homosexuality we only have to turn to I Corinthians 6: 9-10 and Rom 1: 26-27. What people think is right may change, but God's word does not change based on what our society accepts. It is my prayer that as a nation we would look to God for direction in our lives and be more concerned about what His will is and less concerned about our wants and desires.
Sincerely,
Lana Holder
Enjoy!
