Gender and Humor

Thing that always bothers me about this sort of argument, is how can we agree that men are funnier than women when we don't agree what's funny. Most of the films listed so far I thought were awful. I've never heard of any of the female comics mentioned except Ellen Degeneres, who isn't very funny. I watched the Andi Smith posted by onifre, and didn't find it at all funny.Without any clear agreement on what funny is, how can we agree who's best at it?

..... Erm, you know - it's much easier to think of funny series than funny films. It's a simpler matter to sustain comedy for half an hour than for a full film. Some of the best there have to be Spaced, The Day Today and Brass Eye, Futurama, Red Dwarf, the Young Ones, Peep Show (I could go on for a while here). A preponderance of male writers, now that I think about it.
