But if you're wrong, you're being needlessly unpleasant to someone who by all the other available evidence is a nice guy.
But as an admittedly deeply unpleasant person I don't have a problem with that. As someone who is equally unpleasant I fail to see your problem either?
I prefer to err on the side of caution. I'm going to take him at face value until he actually starts asking me for money. What do I have to lose?
I am not sure what anyone here has to lose whatever opinion they express? The love and respect of our EvC peers?

Don't piss me off.
That's when he's at his best!
Yes, but the fact that people can do it doesn't mean that this is often done. I believe that you're a stand-up comedian, 'cos you say so.
Well I also have a website ---- Btw I have a new website guys (shameless promotion) - still working on it - with an e-mail list that updates for upcoming shows. Oni Perez.
But I agree, just because you can doesn't mean you do it. But if he is, man is it a cool idea.
And lyx2no says he's 15. Why should we doubt him?
The posting styles and the whole obit thing threw me personally into suspicion. That's the only reason I doubted it.
If I'm wrong, I lose nothing. At the most, I lose a few moments of my life by posting this stuff, and if I really cared about that I could give up smoking.
But if you're wrong, you're being needlessly unpleasant to someone who by all the other available evidence is a nice guy.
Now if only you could be so sweet to creationist.
I get what you mean though, I like lyx too. I think he's hilarious, who ever or what ever age he is.
I prefer to err on the side of caution. I'm going to take him at face value until he actually starts asking me for money. What do I have to lose?
True dat.

Re: Celebrating Diversity
I am a transexual American conservative republican creationist senator who owns an arsenal of guns and an air craft hanger full of gas guzzling oil-mobiles. I hate cyclists, have never been to Europe (Goddam I have never left Alaska - Why would anyone?) and write material for Fox news.
My online persona is a complete fabrication and I am delighted that I no longer need to live the lie.
Palin for pres!!!!!
I knew you were a transexual, Palin!!! Btw, sorry I got your daughter prego.

Re: Just Say No
I was being somewhat facetious.
Oops. My bad. I thought you were serious.
OK. Are we gonna have a "I've done X" drug-off contest?
No, of course not. That was not my intent with that statement. It was more to solidify my point that it is the person doing the drugs, not so much the drug itself.

I am never entirely serious. Except when everyone else is obviously wrong. Then I am deadly serious. Which is of course most of the time.
It was more to solidify my point that it is the person doing the drugs, not so much the drug itself.
This is kinda off topic...
But it does depend on the drug somewhat. Say with coke I think what you say is very true.
But all sorts, regardless of personality, can get addicted to smack in the right (or wrong) circumstances. As the son of smack head sixties fallout mega-hippy parents I know this from first hand experience. But y'know drugs are as complicated as society.
To be completely glib and superficial about it.

It may. But my "maturity" comment still holds. Lyx as a genuine 15 yr old is fine.
I missed the uncle/nephew thread (I don't read most threads - who does?).

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I've done it a few times when I was growing up and I haven't done it since. I don't like it.
At any rate, I apologize to Lyx for derailing his topic. Sorry dude.

I didn't say that anyone would be addicted after one hit did I? I am not preaching tabloid style anti-drugs drivel.
But given the right circumstances anyone can get addicted to H because it is inherently very physically addictive. In a way that other class A drugs are not.
At any rate, I apologize to Lyx for derailing his topic. Sorry dude.
Yeah. Except that the thread seems to have moved onto stating whether or not we believe that lyx2no is actually who he claims to be or not........
The plot thickens.

It started with me informing him that people were probably ignoring his post because they thought he was joking.
Then, a conditional "if it's true, then I predict a bright future".
The thought process was that, if it's true, we shouldn't be ignoring his thread, so I'm glad we haven't.
The school's interesting. Daniel Dennet is the character I referred to in an earlier post as an ex-student who gets mentioned on EvC, so it produces quality atheists. It was founded by strict Calvinists.

Now if only you could be so sweet to creationist.
But I am. I try to think the very best of everyone. I give creationists exactly the same latitude and benefit of the doubt as I give lyx2no.
However, within a few seconds the average creationist will tell me something that is definitely false, at which point I have to think that through laziness or dishonesty they are untruthful.
Whereas lyx2no has not forced me into that position.

To me, it seems the sarcasm, writing styles, referencing tactic in the jokes, method of delivery is all too similar.
Yep - I've always wondered myself I have long followed and enjoyed lyx2no's posts from uncle through sad demise to nephew. I would say that the three possibilities are equally likely, but if I had to take a bet on it, I would probably go with - there was never an uncle, and it's always been the young lyx2no. But I don't dwell on it and take him at face value. He's far too amusing and clever to worry about it...
What made me spit out my coffee was his revelation that he's black

Good thread, this.

Me too, and I wouldn't have been surprised if he'd said he was still at college (meaning university). However, with the O.P., I looked at his join date, and did the maths. What's interesting about it is that, with many EvC posters (including plenty who aren't perhaps as bright as lyx) I'd have just thought "fuck off, mate, you're kidding".
But with lyx, it is just feasible.
(If he is a 40 year old, that might give him something to think about)!
However, I like the idea of the very young lyx, so I hope the O.P. is true. He does cover the point that doesn't fit his posts, and is aware of it. I wouldn't have thought of him as someone with only two friends, both living 90 miles away.
Another thing that doesn't fit well is not looking up the college. He wouldn't be worrying about being a token bright black kid in a school that produced one of the first black Harvard graduates in 1867 and is 38% non-white had he done so.
Joke or not, I hadn't thought much about Ivy League "prep" schools since I last read "Catcher in the Rye", and they are quite interesting places.
What is it about these Ivy League types?
Do you remember when Brad McFall (ex-Cornell) started a thread on himself?
Now, that was confusing.

Yep - I've always wondered myself
I remember uncle lyx2no and how witty and hilarious he was. I remember the obituary thread. I remember the nephew lyx2no making his appearance. I always thought it was weird just how similiar he was to his uncle in wit and hilarity.
Maybe his uncle raised him?
What made me spit out my coffee was his revelation that he's black
My first reaction to his OP was: "Holy shit! You're black!?"
My second reaction was: "Why the hell would that be my first reaction? I guess I must be racist."
Makes me feel like Brian barking at P Diddy...
Me too.... me too.

I always thought he was too smart to be that young. And he references things that kids his age typically don't know or care about, like some specific anchorman from Fox News. When he said he was homeschooled that all started to make a lot more sense.

Oni was typing about him just playin' us all as if the uncle never died and others were looking for a motive.
I used to get in on the tabletop role-playing games with my older brother and his friends...
Role-playing can be a lot of fun. A great way to do it online is to join some new forum and create a new persona and play out the role and see what happens. Like, go to a music forum and talk about how awesome country music is... Or go to a liberal oriented forum with a confederate flag avatar and act uber conservative (interestingly hateful reactions from that one!). My role-playing fun usually involves some trolling though. I think its hilarious how serious people can be on these internets.

As far as the OP goes. I don't know nothing about that school...

I see you have never lost a friend or a close relative to addictions. Drug addictions can be very destructive to ones health and welfare.
