Re: Obama - gets it done on DADT
The problem is that a lot of liberals can't seem to recognize when "not compromising" is going to result in "getting nothing." The Constitution has no provision for passing legislation just because you really, really want to.
Once again Obama has sidestepped the circular firing squad and done more to advance the liberal program than any living politician as a result of being ready to compromise.
I haven't been able to participate lately due to restrictions at work but I just want to say well done on this thread crash.
Progress is slow and hard fought anytime it has resulted in anything meaningful. The problem with 2008 is that we had a Democratic wave and not necessarily a progressive wave and people weren't paying attention enough to know the difference.
Democracy is messy and a massively inefficient way to get the right things done quickly.

Re: "Progress"?
We have had some good discussions in the past. It is unfortunate that I can't commit more time to EvC lately.
I'll just say this. I would love to have the perfect executive leader performing his job in 100% accordance with the will of the people backed by a swarm of responsive and responsible legislators but we don't have that and our system is designed such that that ideal can never be achieved.
Do I want Obama to turn into Bill Clinton 2.0. No. But the only thing I am hearing in this thread other than what crashfrog is saying has been heavy on hyperbole and short on reality.
That is just my opinion and I wanted to encourage crash since I can't be here to go to it more in depth and he seems to be a bit piled on.
If you want to give me another laundry list of mistakes Obama has made that proves he is un-progressive to make yourself feel better then go ahead. I don't know where the heck that came from or why you thought such a reply was warranted to me.

Re: "Progress"?
You don't know Jazzns? Really? I understand you are busy away from the forum, but if you are not reading the thread, then I suppose you cannot fully understand where I am coming from.
I do understand where your frustration is coming from, but your original reply to me had nothing to do with what I was trying to say to crash. Progressives are allowed to both be frustrated with the pace of change and in touch with reality at the same time. Thats all I was trying to say.
A quick update:
The USA used to stand for goodness.
REALLY!??? Thats news to me. When?
Now it stands for Child Torture, war imperialism, and quickly declining living standards. I am disgusted and angry about this.
Lets add slavery, genocide, the raping of our earth to that list shall we? I'll ask again, when specifically did the USA stand for "goodness" in the context of what is being discussed in this thread?
But you SEEM to be content, perhaps even happy about this "progress"?
Then you didn't understand what I was saying at all. I have re-read my original reply to crash 4 times now I absolutely cannot understand how the hell you are extrapolating that I am "happy" with how things are.
I'll try to visit back because I am interested in this line of discussion but bear in mind that replies from me may take as long as 24 hours.
