Re: Brushes
Glad to have at least pointed you in right direction.
Also be aware that where the brushes make contact with the rotor also wears thin, eventually the copper where the brushes make contact will wear out. I would look close before deciding on spending money on new brushes. If this is the case then you would have to move where the brush makes contact towards where the wires on the rotor attach, if there is room to do so.

Re: Brushes
Learn something every day!!
I can count on my hands how many motors I have taken to be repaired and not have had to replace, usually cause it was cheaper. Most of the time I will just replace the whole pump, That way I can stand behind what I have did knowing I have a manufactures warranty on the parts I have used.
Edited by fearandloathing, : No reason given.

Ah yes, this indeed is the case; there's no more copper left on the part of the shaft where the brushes make contact. It is looking like the money for the switch was not well-spent. I'm going to have to get another vacuum.
Oh well, at least I know what is wrong now. Plus, I learned something new that I didn't know before!
Thanks for all the help, folks.

Re: Brushes
well brushes are usually cheap if you can find some that fit or at least fit well enough to jury rig them or the holders. The problem is finding a store that holds them.
Still vacuums are cheap it might be wiser to buy a new one. (well cheap unless you are a chimney sweep and need the ber powered 2 motor models)

Re: Brushes
what a flipping waste of time! Your time is money also. Scrap the darn thing and get a new one. Stimulate the economy that way.
Anyone can afford a $60.00 vacuum.
