From what I understand from your voting system, it does. First you win the primaries, which basically makes you that party's nominee to run for president, meaning it's basically the party saying: "this is our guy, if you're a republican, vote for this guy". So, if you don't win the primaries, you'll not be able to run for that party. Sure, you could run as an independent, I guess, but they haven't got a hope in hell of winning your presidential elections.
