Re: Congress FUBAR
The government has shut down 17 times since 1976, and no productive citizen even noticed.
Whereas you apparently not only noticed but also kept count.
Government shutdowns are not liked by 2 groups.
1.) people who suck a living off the work of others through taxes.
Quite.

Government shutdowns are not liked by 2 groups.
1.) people who suck a living off the work of others through taxes.
2.) Authoritarian Socialist Pigs who have a "better" plan for your life than you do, and use government to enforce it upon you.
Productive people would only notice a government shutdown if during one, taxes were no longer collected.
You're so right.
Worthless parasites suffer:
The shuttering of large parts of the federal government on Oct. 1 amid a fight over funding President Barack Obama’s health-care law is hurting businesses big and small. Some, such as Thevenin’s, have already taken a hit to their bottom line. Others will suffer from slowed economic activity -- stocks declined yesterday, with the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index at almost a one-month low, and a Gallup poll released Oct. 4 showed consumer confidence had dropped to its lowest point since December 2011.
The shutdown cost $1.6 billion last week in lost economic output, according to IHS Inc. (IHS), a Lexington, Massachusetts-based global market-research firm. As the showdown enters its eighth day, the office closures are now draining an average of $160 million each workday from the $15.7 trillion economy.
"Productive people" are unaffected:
A House aide confirmed to ThinkProgress that the House member’s gym is open. The House gym features a swimming pool, basketball courts, paddleball courts, a sauna, a steam room and flat screen TVs. While towel service is unavailable, taxpayers remain on the hook for cleaning and maintenance, which has been performed daily throughout the shutdown. There are also costs associated with the power required to heat the pools and keep the lights on.
According to the aide, the decision to keep the gym open even while other critical government services were shelved came directly from Speaker Boehner’s office.
It's lucky we've got you around to do political analysis for us, or we might get all confused.

The poll may have been conducted by Fox News, but it was answered by those notorious liberal commienazis the American people. Let's not forget, it was their bad voting that got us into this mess in the first place.

Unfortunately, this is not in jest. We are this government and we now have the government we deserve.
Enjoy the show, people; the ineptitude, the sheer st*pid*ty on display. We cast this government in our own image.
Not really --- the people voted for a Democratic President, Senate, and House. It's not their fault that the House elections were gerrymandered.

I guess that's why he halved the deficit.

Re: How I learned to stop worrying and default...
Well, you do have to wonder. In the last week I've seen these people attacking Michelle Obama for being spoiled and pampered because she has (as it turns out) exactly as many assistants as Laura Bush did, and fewer than several First Ladies before that; and attacking Obama for being a "dictator" because he has a veto and occasionally uses it --- to be precise, he's used it twice, nine times fewer than GWB, and as many times as George Washington, and in fact you have to go back to the 1880s to find a President who's used the veto less often than Obama*. Or remember Buzsaw (MHRIP) complaining about Obama appointing "czars" ... just like, y'know, everyone else did. So you have to wonder, why are he and his wife being judged by a different standard to everyone else who's inhabited the White House?
* James Garfield, assassinated after only six months in office.

Lowering the deficit is not lowering the debt.
I never said it was.

Re: Rallier tells Obama to 'put the Quran down
But actually birthers make up only a fraction of the tea party ...
Only a minority of TPs think he was born in the US, according to opinion polls. So "a fraction" yes, but one that's greater than 1/2.

"Those governments over there can run their little countries so therefore our different government over here can run this huge country just as well"
Sorry, I'm not buying that.
Ah yes, the doctrine of American Exceptionalism: that America is so uniquely incapable that if we tried to do what everyone else manages to do, we'd somehow fuck it up completely. If conservatives have only taught us one thing, and they have, it's that all true patriots believe passionately in our supreme national incompetence. In the words of our hallowed anthem, "Oh say, does the Star-Spangled Banner still flap o'er the land of the dumb and the home of the crap?" And is not our very national motto "Not As Good As Belgium"?

How many other governments had to shut down but still were getting paid?
If you're trying to imply that the problem is not, as you at first suggested, that the country is large, but rather that the Republican Party is full of malign assholes, then I heartily concur.

Paranoid conspiracy theories are not helping you.
The idea that for-profit entities try to make profits is a paranoid conspiracy theory now? I thought it was a truism.
But yeah, I think if we were dealing with a country that had half of our population, and they all lived in an area the size of Montana, then it would be easier to lower the cost of healthcare.
That's not actually what makes it easier. You think there's an inverse correlation between healthcare costs and ... population density? How did you hit on that as an excuse rather than some other metric such as the number of stars on the national flag?
Single payer might be the best way to go, I dunno. I think there's too many factors involved to say that something that worked in another country ...
And if it was just an other country, your caution might be justified.

You guys have a tenth of our population and 75% of you live within 100 miles of our border.
So now it's not to do with surface area, but ... I dunno, because economies of scale work exactly the opposite way to how they actually do?

The town has a lot of union workers living in it and if it got picketed then they probably wouldn't patronize him.
Its like extortion because we either have to pay their higher price or face the threat of damaging the business.
And surgery is like murder because it involves stabbing people with knives.
