I have a newspaper investigative reporter's book, Has Dr. Max Gerson A True Cancer Cure.. The reporter set out to expose Gerson as a quack and ended up writing his book which summed up by saying (1) that the American Cancer Society and the AMA found it more profitable to look for cures than to find them and (2) that these organizations did not want to admit that Gerson's simplistic regime could do what their millions extracted from the sheeple for conventional methods failed to do.
The author of this book was S. J. Haught, who does not actually exist, but is credited with several different books all puffing this same form of treatment. Apparently Haught is the pen-name of Robert Lichello, a former writer for the National Enquirer, that well-known bastion of investigative journalism. He also under his own name wrote a book entitled How To Make $1,000,000 On The Stock Market Automatically, although I have found no evidence that he ever did. He died of cancer.
What I can't find is any hard evidence for the effectiveness of the treatment, which is the first thing people look for when they're selling real medicine rather than injections of calf liver and ozone enemas.
He and other wholistic docs in the US have been banned from treating patients, due to the power of the drug cartels in bed with the FDA, all about $$$ and power.
Well, actually, because he took people's money and killed them with no evidence whatsoever that his treatment was good for anything. There's a sucker born every minute, they say; guys like Gershon insure that the death rate among suckers is much the same.
In recent years I've developed the symptoms of skin *** on my face and ears.
You're an oncologist now? Did you do your own biopsy? Or do you mean that you ... got a rash?
Me, I've never had cancer, so I'll stick with my own health regime, which seems to work rather better.

Such is Life
quote:
Mind telling us what they had and how they were "lost"?
They died. I know one was from Lupus. My sister in law wasn't specific on the other two. They passed before she came into our family.
She herself has dealt with Rheumatoid Arthritis since her early 20's and she hasn't cleared 50 yet. It seemed to "go away" after her last child (6 years), but now her body seems to be attacking her thyroid.
Her issues don't sound quite as extreme as yours, but it is a battle for them. Needless to say they are watching their kids closely.
Since I've been researching thyroid issues for my family she wanted some resources. Some of the early research suggests that auto immune issues may be related to an under active thyroid and not just when the body is attacking the thyroid.
The research done by Dr. Broda O. Barnes found that undiagnosed hypothyroidism accounted for many diseases. He considered the thyroid the first issue to check in dealing with difficult cases. Unfortunately the TSH numbers don't always tell us if one is hypothyroid. My lab numbers look great, but my MD says I have myxedema, which is part of hypothyroidism. So now I start my battle to get the right treatment. Hence my thread on T4 and T3.
My sister and mother have the same thing, but have been on T4 for over 10 years with no improvement and continuing hypo symptoms that are worsening and it can lead to dementia. (No, I'm not that far along and we can't blame any of my weird arguments on that ... yet. )
My husband (who also suffers from hypothyroidism) said, by the time we get all this figured out and feel good, we'll be dead.
I guess we all have body battles to deal with. Such is life.

What is your evidence for this claim? What in the reporter's book can you rebut with evidence?
I see there's an operating Gerson Institute in San Diego.
Perhaps you have info to apprise us on how they keep practicing if they are filching and killing the sheeple, using the Gerson methodology, as you allege.

There is no evidence that hasn't been rebutted.
50 years after his treatment was described in his book, none of his proponents has shown any evidence that it works.
The silence from their side of the fence is deafening.

Re: Such is Life
Actually, to tell you the truth, after the last time around, I've decided to not undergo anymore major treatment. They've presented me with some options (all medical mumble jumble to me). I've decided that if it's time for me to go it's time for me to go. I have a weird perspective on this. I think people who have weird conditions shouldn't bog down the system just to live a little longer. There are people who are dying of very treatable diseases. I want our system to focus more on them.
This is why this time around I've opted for the easiest option they gave me, which is to sit on my ass and do nothing hoping it would just die down on its own. So far, it seems this time around is not so bad compared to the past. I'm actually getting better, even though my body is itching like hell. Thank goodness for anti-itch cream.
Ha, I might actually get better enough for my wife and I to go on our planned vacation in August. Keeping our fingers crossed. We're taking a road trip this time. Driving down to Kentuckistan and then make our way to DC from there. We'll make a few stops for landmarks and stuff before spending our time exploring DC. We're still debating whether to take the littlest dog with us or not.

Re: Such is Life
Sometimes it is a matter of just letting the body do its thing. Too many cooks so to speak.
I hope your body make a full recovery and you can enjoy your vacation. Sounds like you'll need one.
Take care

If, during your rest, you get mild exercise and try some diet adjustments, your rest time may be more effective. It would be interesting and possibly helpful for you to write on a tablet every little thing that goes into your mouth from the time you rise to the time you retire, noting the times of each. If you smoke including pot anything or apply anything to the skin, etc note that as well. Do this daily, noting how you fared at the end of the day for each day.

Re: Wholistic Systemic Solution
It's interesting that you appeal to what "scientists believe" in one breath and in the very next you deride medical science.
What I derided was the illogics of conventional drug treatment with all of it's adversities.
Your holistic woo may have worked just fine for your family, but the plural of "anecdote" is not "data." Exercising, eating healthy foods, getting enough sleep, avoiding stress, and taking vitamins is good advice even for healthy individuals. But it's not enough when you have a real medical problem.
But reality is that a strict regimen of doing the above with some knowledge of how to do it has worked for my family and others who apply it effectively. Novices should seek advice.
Taz's medical issue is a heritable genetic disorder, not something that he can solve just by cutting out the junk food.
That's not all I advocated. It's one aspect of an effective holistic regime.

Re: Such is Life
Most people don't believe me when I say this, but I've never actually tried pot before. I've no interest to. When I became a cop, one of the questions they had for me was if I ever tried pot. I said no. Not surprisingly, they didn't believe me. I really really wanted to say to them to "suck it" after my polygraph exam. I guess in their eyes I either never really tried pot before (not once) or I was a good enough liar to fool the polygraph examiner.
