To make a lesser machine that is more user friendly, I don’t get it.
Its for people who aren't computer savvy...
Which is easier:
  • Getting your grandma to fire up her webcam and dial you up on Skype
  • Having her touch your name on a screen and point her tablet towards her face
I think it’s a horrible gaming platform,
Well, there's gaming... and then there's GAMING!1!
There's no GAMING!1! at the gate waiting for a plane, but there is gaming and that does pass the time.

I see your point, but then aren't these Mac prodcuts kind of a joke then?
Kind of, but not really. They're good for the computer un-savvy.
Facetime on the iPhone has been very beneficial for me.
This one time, I was teaching a friend (in another state) how to play an MMO via Facetime. It was nice to be able to swap to the front facing camera and show them exactly what to click on and what they should see, etc. Just sat the phone in front of my monitor and we had a little video conference going while they were learning.
the internet is even worse. so now I can have a wifi accepting tablet, or I can get on the 3G network on a data plan. WTF!?! what a lame con game.
Oh, I'd never pay for a data plan for a tablet like that... that is con-ish. But there's shit piles of free wifi's around, so that part is pretty cool.
There's no GAMING!1! at the gate waiting for a plane, but there is gaming and that does pass the time.
If you had a laptop there could be.
Nope, laptops can't run my gamez... but I'm hardcore like that.
that you can't call people on and costs 2-3times as much to play puzzle games on.
Now now, there are some good looking games on the iPhone. Even FPS's...

In fact that is not true. Catholic Scientist talked about tablets being easier to use, and suggested that easier to use products had a place, and you decided to respond by trashing "Mac products". So why would I assume that you are talking about tablets in general when even Apple's tablets aren't called "Mac"s ?
When I read where they wrote "these Mac products", I assumed they were talking about the post-PC products that we were discussing, and continued typing about the iPhone.
If you assume that 'Mac' was short for Macintosh and then search for a list of "Macintosh Products", you will find that the iPhone/Pod/Pad are included as a part of them.
You assumed he was talking about Mac's as in their personal computer line, but this topic is about non-PC products so it makes sense that they're not talking about those.

Maybe you assumed that but it's hard to claim that it is clear from the context. It's very hard to read it as referring to tablets in general.
Look at it all:
quote:
For me, it was only worth it if I could be productive with it. But when I looked at the ipad and ipad 2, I couldn't see myself being very productive with it. Sure, it's a nice gaming platform. But that's about it.
To make a lesser machine that is more user friendly, I don’t get it.

Kind of, but not really. They're good for the computer un-savvy.
Facetime on the iPhone has been very beneficial for me.

We're talking about iPads n'stuff....
I tried that and I didn't - at least not on the first page of search results.
Here:
Macintosh - Wikipedia
Bottom right of the chart
Since your comment about "easy to use products" could be construed more generally, it's not going that far off topic. And when we see that sort of bashing a strict adherence to the topic is hardly guaranteed.
The thread title, itself, mentions "post-PC"...
Don't get me wrong, I see how/why you misunderstood what they were saying... I'm just saying that you did, in fact, misunderstand them.

You mean where iOS devices are listed as "other Apple products"? Along with the Apple II, the Lisa, and the Newton? Which aren't Macs either?
That would seem to indicate that they're not Macs. Also, the fact that they're not called "Macs" and don't run the Mac OS or any Mac software.
Yeah, you're right, they're not Macintosh at all are they? I honestly don't know shit about Apple or Macinotosh and who has what products. But for some reason, I still understood.
Whatever. We all knew what AE is talking about, but not because he's using appropriate word choice.
Well, not all of us

ABE:
In Message 41 you wrote:
There's usually a five-year lag between new features released in the new DirectX version and the release of any games that actually take advantage of them, and that's much longer than the dev cycle for a video game would suggest (and devs are given pre-release access to DirectX tools, as well.) It's just that game devs don't design for the latest hardware, they design for the common hardware. And until everybody had a video card that supported DX11, for instance, there was nothing to be gained by designing games to it.
I think you have a good point here...
Now, I'm not totally up-to-speed on staying current with the latest games, but I never had the chance to install a DX10 before DX11 came out. I was all: WTF?
Edited by Catholic Scientist, : No reason given.

Re: Itunes account
ditto. it's quite nice to come home with a game and be playing it within 5 minutes of opening the box instead of spending time tweaking settings and updating drivers.
Riiiight... last couple times I fired up the PS3 I got to play my favortie game:

Re: Itunes account
sure with the current gen (and future generations) of game consoles there are OS updates and updates for the games but they're generally foolproof,
Ahem:
no searching for beta releases of drivers or rolling back to different driver versions.
I've never had to do that... The only problems I've ever had were because of the software companies, like EA and Funcom throwing some shitty products out there. I just can't wait for the fun I'm gonna have with Origin for BF3
Turn on the console, let the system update itself and then go. I use an Xbox so i don't know how you PS3 users fare but I haven't had the slightest trouble with system/game updates.
I feel ya... Some games, though, you really need a mouse and keyboard (I realize they're available for consols too but mine's hooked up to my TV and I can't really use a M&K on the couch). Granted, some games are better with joysticks.
It just depends on who and where... but I just build a fucking awesome PC and I'm just loving it. Have you used Steam?

Re: Itunes account
yes there is the RROD, I have yet to have it happen to me, but my brother is on his second xbox and I've heard tell of people on the 7th.
Yikes, that throws the cost benefit out the window.
And the PS3 has had issues as well I've heard.
What with the whole SOE server hacking, n'all?
I'm not trying to claim the console is superior, just saying that the vast majority of games I buy will be on the xbox cause I'm fed up with PC gaming.
No, I get what you're saying typing....
Consoles have their benefits, and then PC's have their reasons for being superior
Have you used Steam?
Yes
Great benefit for having a PC, no? There's some really great deals on there too! I love it.

M&K vs joystick
Please name one game that you play or have played in the last 10 years where a joystick is better than M&K? I cannot think of one.
I prefer a joystick in close-quarter FPS's like Call of Duty... when I hafta do a lot of turning around and/or knifing and the action is more "in your face" and faced pace, I feel like I perform better doing those things with a joystick. On the other hand, if I'm shooting people that are 100+ yards away, I feel a lot "tighter" with a mouse.
Make sense?

Re: M&K vs joystick
By "joystick" I meant the Playstation Controller ones... but to answer your question, yea I do have a joystick for my PC... for flying (its just too bad I fly way better with the mouse
Anyways,
I will be buying Modern Warfare 3 for the PS3 and Battlefield 3 for the PC...
I do better in the close-quarter combat of MW3 with a controller and I do better in the distant-combat of BF3 with the mouse.
Too, Battlefield has so many more functions like squad commands and targeting that I think you pretty much need a keyboard.
But for MW3, since we're talking about modern warfare and the most powerful modern weapon to date is the knife... well, I just find knifing people a lot easier with a controller

Re: Itunes account
tried to make FFXIV as complex as other PC MMO's but still make it accessible to console players. It was a complete failure.
Hey, I liked that game! Played many hours on the PS2. What do you mean "failure"? Its still up and running I think.
It was god-aweful difficult though... I remember the first time I played WoW after FFXI and I thought: "This is retarded, the tell me exactly where I have to go to complete this quest"
I don't feel that way anymore though, cause I realized that FFXI was damn-near impossible to complete quests without some help.
