True and I totally agree about Euro gas prices (I spent a few years in Deutschland). However, isn't it also true that Europe has higher standards for fuel efficiency? Plus, there are far, FAR more public transport options.
Whilst this may be true on average, it very much depends whereabouts you live in Europe or the US. Some US cities, like New York and Chicago, have very good public transit systems, and train travel is more affordable and more comfortable in the north-east US than it is in the UK. Affordable intercity bus services are also expanding in the US, again mostly in the north-east.
Conversely, there are parts of Europe where public transport is rare to non-existent. Admittedly, I live in a city with brilliant public transport, but not everywhere is the same.
