So, this time around I'm going to do what I've been telling people to do, lately - handle their portable computing needs with a cheap, portable tablet (I'm going to get an iPad) and put the rest of their computer cash into a desktop.
I'd like to hear how this works out for you or the people you've advise. I have a smaller (7") tablet, and for me that smaller tablet is a poor substitute for a laptop, particularly for writing/coding. The tablet is great for consuming media and reading email, but I hate entering text on it.
In particular I'd like to know if the extra real estate on the iPad makes enough difference so that it is reasonable to forego a laptop.
There's no doubt that desktops are a better bargain than new laptops, but then my laptop is 100 dollar, used Dell D800, and I don't do any gaming.
Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846)
The apathy of the people is enough to make every statue leap from its pedestal and hasten the resurrection of the dead. William Lloyd Garrison.
Choose silence of all virtues, for by it you hear other men's imperfections, and conceal your own. George Bernard Shaw
