Catholicism versus Protestantism down the centuries

You'd think that it was just Catholic vs Protestant to listen to this. But of course it's nothing of the sort. There have been schisms in Christianity for as long as there's been Christianity. And just within Protestantism there's hundreds of groupings But Faith knows which is THE ONE. Just like all the other members of all the other sects do.But actually, that's only true of the fundamentalists; more normal religious believers think nothing of the sort. They think that a belief in Christ and living a reasonably good life is enough to be a Christian. They also generally think that you don't have to be a Christian to be 'saved'. I have no idea how the fundie's weird and bigotted views get so much air time.

Right. And how is this knowledge communicated?
(I'm a bit rusty on this, but 'm pretty sure that your book tells you that only your God knows who's saved and who isn't)

Every religion takes offence at being criticised and the idea that Catholicism is free from criticism here is laughable, but anyway....People are attacking your beliefs not your religion. The best I can say for the Catholics is that they've had the good political sense to change their minds on what they believe as science discovers how things work in the world. They don't do it quickly or willingly, but they don't hang on hopelessly forever trying to make untruths, true making themselves look ridiculous in the process the way you do.In other words they're not totally bonkers, just mostly.

That's what the theory says, but practice proves it's wrong. All the evidence is that the more fundamental the believers are, the more likely they are to hate other believers.Faith can't find a fault in her personal interpretation of her particular flavour of bible but can find shed loads of fault in other Christians' beliefs. And she doesn't even consider non-Christian beliefs as remotely relevant to any conversation - not even worthy of a comment, simply shunned.

When you're done making stuff up about the relative work ethics of protestants and Catholics, perhaps you'll explain why it's China and India that are now the most industrious, with that famously Catholic nation Brazil, close behind?

You need to get out more - do you have a passport?Nations rise and fall, power and influence changes. Greeks, Romans, Aztecs, Russians, Chinese all had their time. The industrial revolution and its Empire was the Brit's time (and arose from a joint Catholic/protestant nation).The USA has had a good run for its money and has had its share of Catholics - immigrants from Europe and now Mexico. 20 years ago Japan had the world at its feet, now it's the BRICS time (Brazil, India China).You have a shallow, parochial and egocentric view of the world from science to economics and history. The world is not going to end in your lifetime just because you think you're important. Just isn't going to happen - sorry.

Just as I don't have a personal view of biology, geology, physics and palaeontology I also don't have a personal view of history and economics. I rely on what those who actually know something about those subjects tell me.You see, my world view does not need me to make every fact fit into a book of ancient mythology that shows itself to be wronger every passing minute.But to get back to your new madness; protestantism has been around about 400-500 years. Before then empires came and went and since then empire have come and gone - some even Christian. But somehow a theoretical protestant nation is special?(The USA has never been a protestant nation btw, if you want a predominantly protestant country, you need to look at Wales - sadly its empire didn't last either. In fact it never got to have one.)Even though, as you are saying, the USA's power and influence is waining just like all powerful states have done and always will do. Can't be that special then; can't be the one the world has been waiting for. In fact it has by your definition already failed.If you really want to learn why empires decline I suggest you settle back and do a few years of reading and research because this has been discussed for centuries - you really don't have to make all this up too.
