Is it egotistical to think that a God would die for you?
People who believe in the barbaric human blood sacrifice of the Triune Jesus/God must believe that the greatest force ever to exist decided that humans, lowly creations whom we are told are infinitely inferior to God, are somehow more important than God’s own life and that he would give it up for believers. That is like a slave master dying in place of his slave. A rather silly notion to me. Jesus preached that we should develop a humble character with little self-pride. How is placing your own life above Triune Jesus/God’s showing a humble character as you think that he would die for you? That is taking self-pride to the maximum. I think that those with good morals will know that no noble and gracious God would demand the sacrifice of a so called son just to prove it's benevolence. Yet Christians who think they are moral will believe that God would do such a despicable thing as having his son killed even as scriptures say that God prefers repentance to sacrifice and does not believe in asking or accepting a ransom. Is thinking that to believe that God would die for you the epitome of an inflated ego? If not, what could possibly inflate an ego more than that? RegardsDL

I don't see it as egotistical at all but it does make the god look really stupid.
Anyone so limited that they can only spell a word one way is severely handicapped!

Is thinking that to believe that God would die for you the epitome of an inflated ego? If not, what could possibly inflate an ego more than that? Perhaps it would be more egotistical to believe that God did something personally for you that he did not also do for every single person to ever walk the face of the earth. Under a government which imprisons any unjustly, the true place for a just man is also in prison. Thoreau: Civil Disobedience (1846) I would say here something that was heard from an ecclesiastic of the most eminent degree; ‘That the intention of the Holy Ghost is to teach us how one goes to heaven, not how the heaven goes.’ Galileo Galilei 1615. If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and deprecate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. Frederick Douglass

You have two contadictory notions there. Either we are "infinitely inferior to God" or we "place our own lives above" Him. Which is it? How is placing your own life above Triune Jesus/God’s showing a humble character as you think that he would die for you? In general, the creation is considered to be more important than the artist. It wouldn't be unusual for an artist to sarifice himself, even his life, for his art. It is possible for the artist to be egotistical enough to think he will be remembered separately from his creation.

Black Sabbath says so. Which is good, because that means Ozzy is still alive.

So, God, the eternal, all powerful, superbeing, sacrificed his earthly avatar (Jesus), who had to quit his transient, earthly existance to return to heaven to continue to live for all eternity.
"Sacrifice"? doesn't sound like it."die"? ummm... nope.

The idea of "Is it egotistical to think that a God would die for you?" was probably the biggest factor that led me to doubt Christianity when I was a young teenager. I waited into my forties to consolidate doubt into certainty.

Of course, since god didn't die permanently for us, but just had a rough day and a half, your whole premise falls to bits.

wait.. have I missed something? is God dead? Good lord, man, where you been? NYTimes carried his obit April 8, 1966. The actual death was anounced by Nietzsche back in 1882 but the NYTimes finally caught up in 1966. A little slow on the uptake there, but hey, it was a busy century and not a lot of print space up till then.

The egotistical part came when we humans invented gods and made them so that they cared about us. We even conned ourselves into thinking that we were the center of the universe, and that the universe was created just for us even though we are one planet out of trillions living in a galaxy that is one of billions.
The funny part is that we just couldn't hide it. We made the gods in our image.

Not so sure any of the gods but the Biblical God was ever said to "care about us," that's just something that gets assumed based on the Biblical God. But most of the gods of the world's tribes have been demons who demand propitiation and sacrifice of their worshipers, who always approach with some kind of gift.

But most of the gods of the world's tribes have been demons who demand propitiation and sacrifice of their worshipers, who always approach with some kind of gift. And after you give them a gift they will start to care about you and not punish you like those unbelievers. I get it.
