I've created an EvC Forum Facebook page: Update Your Browser | Facebook. The goal is to channel Facebook users interested in the creation/evolution debate to the EvC Forum website.
I don't know Facebook and need help.
First, I need to add our logo to the top page in the same way as the large image at the top of this IBM page: Update Your Browser | Facebook. How do I do that?
Second, why is the link to IBM's page simple (just .../IBM) while EvC Forum's is complex (.../pages/EvC-Forum/696785293741157).
Third, I can't seem to go through the Facebook promotion process (where I can list interest areas) without selecting a payment method. EvC Forum of course accepts no payments.
Fourth, constructive advice about what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

Mine has a camera logo in the upper left corner that I can click on to change the pic.
In your profile options you should be able to select a URL for your page; that's how it works for personal pages. I cannot remember how to get there, and Facebook changes their interface every week so it is probably different by now anyway.
Fourth, constructive advice about what to do next would be greatly appreciated.
Good luck!

Love your enemies!

That just changes the little square pic. Visit Update Your Browser | Facebook and you'll see what I mean. They have the little square pic that just says IBM, but behind it they also have an image that spans the entire width of the page.
Another question for people: Under Settings->Topics, it won't let me "Choose three words to describe your Page". The "Save Changes" button is there but not active.

You want to make the EvC banner your "cover photo". Right now it is your "profile picture". On my facebook page there is a camera icon on each that I can click to change them.

You should have a camera icon for both of them.

Hmmm, I had tried that before but it didn't seem to do anything. Worked this time. Gotta be user error, but I don't know what I did. Thanks!
I'll have to work on the image. They require it to be 150 pixels high minimum, but then they magnify it to fit the height of the space instead of changing the height of the space. They're forcing me to an aspect ratio for which I have no suitable image at this time. Maybe I'll just throw up my hands in frustration and grab some generic image of a bunch of happy young people enjoying themselves like everyone else does.
I wonder if there's a way to automatically update the Facebook page with things like most recent post or member.

From the Skepti-Forum pages, you may think about asking Knigel Holmes about how to set up Facebook pages. He set up all of the Skepti-forum network of pages on Facebook, including Skepti-Forum, GMO Skepti-Forum, Environment Skepti-Forum, Energy Skepti-Forum, and....you get the idea. He is a very pleasant person to chat with, so I am sure he would be willing to offer suggestions if you need help solving how to do something. Other than that, I am on my way to join up with the EVC folks in Facebook time!

We should all get together for a group photo.

You should be able to resize the image in Photoshop without constraining the proportions. This would stretch or contract the image without distorting it too much, I think.

It's the aspect ratio that's the problem. Facebook scales the image so that it is exactly as high as the space available in that box at the top of the page. If you have an image that is many times wider than it is high then very little of it will fit. Their box is 2.75 times as wide as it is high, while the EvC Forum image is 6.9 times as wide as high, so only about 40% of the width of the image will fit in that box.

Maybe just surround it in white like this:
Or maybe black looks better:

I think you should leave the "Understanding through Discussion" part under the gold EvC logo, it looks good and adds a lot.
Now, how am I going to be able to be a dick to people, anonymously, if they know who I am on Facebook?
And how will I keep my real life friends from finding all the politically incorrect crap I spout here?
I'm not sure I'm down with losing my anonymity.

Another great idea.
I know you were tongue-in-cheek, but this won't remove anonymity from members. People coming from Facebook will (soon) be able to log in here automatically through their Facebook account, but they'll still have the option to register an EvC Forum account and remain anonymous.

Aliases
Hey CS, I know from many of the Pro-GMO groups I participate in people have begun using aliases because of anti-GMO individuals making death threats against people defending biotechnology. The most recent one happened to someone and was received from someone in their own town, which was quite frightening for him, especially considering they threatened his family as well. Perhaps creating a Sock Facebook account for your EVC persona can allow you to retain your anonymity while debating, which should give you the freedom to continue to be a dick when you want to.
Myself, if someone wants to try and threaten me because of my viewpoints, I'll call them out on their crazy, so on Facebook I debate with my real name. I think that in debate, asking for anonymity, especially when individuals may threaten someone, is an understandable desire, however. So, I would say that Socking it would be the best route for you.
ABE - Worst case (as creating an account with a false name is technically against the rules), they will suspend the account if they determine it is fake and you would just have to make a new one.
Edited by Tempe 12ft Chicken, : No reason given.
